If you thought the years-long feud involving insults, misunderstandings, scathing clapbacks, and public callouts between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus was coming to a close, think again!
Everyone knows things can get quite heated in the music industry, especially in today’s age where it’s not just the music that speaks for itself. Every artist now has a direct line to their fans, their haters, and to other celebrities as well. That means there’s much more speaking outside of the music, and, in Nicki Minaj’s case, those words can be pretty loud.
With Twitter rants and ruthless call-outs galore, Minaj may just be the most confrontational rapper in the game right now. From allegedly threatening music's biggest diva, to the endless tornado of blame that swept up Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus in its wake, she has numerous feuds to her name.
It’s long been a tradition, particularly in hip-hop, to name-drop other artists, but things have taken a turn for the toxic. After a complicated and still delicate history, Cyrus made the baffling decision to call out Minaj in her song ‘Cattitude,’ and the rapper clapped back on Queen Radio, calling her a “Perdue chicken” among other salacious insults.
Their feud really kicked off back in 2015, after Minaj and Cyrus had both released massive music videos for ‘Anaconda’ and ‘Wrecking Ball,’ respectively. When MTV announced the nominees for the VMAs, Minaj wasn’t on the list for Video of the Year.
She took to Twitter and wrote, “When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination,” followed by, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
What Cyrus did next kicked off a series of events that continues to this day.
