CELEBRITY Mental health
Raising awareness of mental health and suicide has never been more important. Suicide still claims too many lives in modern society, and there are far too many who have had suicidal thoughts. There have been many high-profile figures who have felt similarly, and have even made attempts on their own life.
Billie Eilish just admitted on 'The Gayle King Grammy Special' that she considered suicide back in 2018 after becoming overwhelmed by her newfound fame. Success resulted in the artist losing many friends, who could no longer relate to her, leaving her clinically depressed. "I was so unhappy and I was so like, joyless," she shared. "I don't want to be too dark, but I genuinely didn't think I'd make it to 17."
"I think about this one time I was in Berlin, and I was alone in my hotel, and I remember there was a window right there, and I, like… God, I remember crying because I was thinking about how... the way that I was gonna die was that I was gonna do it."
Fortunately the singer's mom, Maggie Baird, got her into therapy, decreased her workload, and turned down requests of her behalf. With time, Billie was able to get back to her best self.
