Though she was late to the 2023 Met Gala, Rihanna made it worth the wait. The singer and beauty mogul showed up in an elaborate white Valentino gown with a hooded top embellished with massive white fabric flowers, and of course added fingerless gloves in a nod to the late Karl Lagerfeld. Rihanna then took down the hooded top to wear it around her arms, revealing a tighter bodice which put her baby bump on full display. In a red carpet interview, the star said her second pregnancy feels completely different than the first, and that she's feeling way more nauseous, so we could all certainly cut her some slack for being late.

Rihanna is known not only for her incredible music, but also for her enduring sense of style. The versatility of her looks has turned the singer into a fashion icon. She even owns her own company, Fenty Beauty, which has helped to make her the world's richest female musician, according to Forbes.

So, where did Rihanna’s stylish journey begin? Born in Barbados, Rihanna sold clothes as a child, working with her father in Bridgetown. However, her passion for fashion was put on a hold, after Rihanna was spotted by music agents and flown out to the United States. After signing with Jay-Z, the singer started to become a star. It was music first, with big success following the release of her debut album, ‘Music of the Sun.’

Rihanna’s interest in clothes was reignited in 2011, when she announced her first fashion venture with Armani. Two years later, Rihanna worked with River Island to present her first women’s spring fashion collection at London Fashion Week. She went from high street to collaborating with fashion houses like Dior, Stance, and Manolo Blahnik. In 2015, she became the first black female face of Dior, which led her to found Fenty.

The fashion brand operates under LVMH, a luxury fashion group which also owns Louis Vuitton, along with other luxury goods. The house launched in Paris, at a pop-up store in May 2019. Rihanna is taking her brand in brave new directions, and has earned high praise for doing so.
