Italian fashion designer Riccardo Tisci has been appointed chief of Burberry. The designer takes the place of Christopher Bailey, who left the company after 17 years with a farewell show during London Fashion Week. Tisci previously worked as the creative director of Givenchy for 12 years. He left the Parisian fashion house last year. Since leaving Givenchy, he has collaborated with Nike and making ready-to-wear clothes. Now Tisci will lead at Burberry.
But how will Tisci change Burberry? The designer was relatively unknown before 2005, and has since pioneered streetwear, as well as high couture and ready-to-wear clothes. In a statement obtained by Dazed, the designer said “I am honoured and delighted to be joining Burberry as its new Chief Creative Officer”. Tisci added “I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand”.
Although many didn’t expect an Italian designer to take the lead at a traditionally British fashion house, fans can only wait and see what Riccardo Tisci brings to the table.
