The legendary photographer Bill Cunningham passed away in 2016 after a lifetime of pioneering fashion portraiture. As Dazed reports, the photographer wrote a “secret” memoir, documenting his private and elusive life. The memoir will hit bookshelves in September. Titled ‘Fashion Climbing,’ the book will follow Cunningham’s ascent up the fashion ladder. It begins with his early experimentation with women's clothing, following his service in the Korean War and his move to New York City. Expect plenty of scoops and revelations from the fashion world.
As pointed out by Dazed, editor Christopher Richards had some interesting words about ‘Fashion Climbing.’ “It seems so unexpected—he really didn’t divulge anything about his life to his friends and his colleagues,” Richards said, adding that “he was so private.”
During his career, Cunningham worked as the fashion photographer for the New York Times. He reported for the newspaper from 1978 to 2016.
