Turn down fur what: The daring designers who have ditched fur
Donatella Versace isn't the only animal-friendly designer
The future of fashion is fur-free. Donatella Versace recently announced that her brand will not use animals in future collections. Even Kate Middleton is hosting shows that champion ethical fashion at Buckingham Palace. There’s no better time to take a look at the designers who have gone fur-free. First, there’s the New York fashion house DKNY. Spokesperson Wendy Higgins called fur an “archaic material” following the anti-fur announcement, Vogue reports. Michael Kors also announced that they will be fur-free by the end of December 2018.
The CEO of Gucci announced at the London College of Fashion that the brand will abandon fur. “Technology is now available that means you don't need to use fur. The alternatives are luxurious,” Marco Bizzarri told Vogue. Tommy Hilfiger was ahead of the ethical fashion movement. The designer abandoned fur back in 2007. Other fur-free brands include Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, and Vivienne Westwood.
With big names rejecting the animal product and consumers increasingly making ethical fashion choices, it is likely that we will soon see the last of fur on the catwalk.
