Natural - What makes wine natural you ask? They have very little or no added sulfur, no new oak and are wild yeast fermented, according to PED.TV.

Expert - Wine expert Eddie Swchweitzer said, "They are wines with nothing added and nothing taken away; no acid, sugar or tannin additions."

Allows - In other words, intervention is minuscule to none, and it turns out how nature allows it to be.

Defined - Although natural wines can't be exactly defined, there are types of natural wines that can be.

Types - These natural wines include biodynamic wine, faulty wine, organic wine, orange wine, sustainable wine, unfiltered wine and vegan wine.

Organic wine - This refers to wines made from grapes that have been farmed using organic practices.

Certified - This means that no synthetic herbicides, fungicides, pesticides or fertilisers are used during the production process, and have to follow a strict, certified process.

Biodynamic wines - A type of organic wine, but going a step further by implementing biodynamic agriculture practices created by Dr Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s.

Connected - This means understanding that elements of nature are dependent on each other, like soil, plants and animals.

Sustainable wine - Often using organic or biodynamic grapes, sustainable wine is made in an ecologically, economically and socially responsible way.

Vegan wine - Most wines use animal products/derivatives during the clarification and filtration process, including bone marrow, milk protein, egg albumen, fish oil or gelatin.

Fining agents - Different fining agents are used to clarify and filter vegan wines. Extracts from plants and minerals are mainly utilised, including bentonite clay, limestone, kaolin clay, plant casein or silica gel.

Unfiltered wines - These wines have not gone through winemaking's traditional filtering processes.

Cloudy -

Although they prone to expiration quicker, these wines tend to have a fresh taste and natural texture. They may appear cloudy due to particles, aromas, flavours and sediment left behind.

Faulty wine - Usually, due to the different processes used in making natural wines, faulty wine can occur, meaning that the wine produces unpleasant aromas and tastes.

Unique - Although people don't usually drink 'unpleasant' wine, unique flavours may be sought-after in a wine. It can also be the result of unfiltered wines.

Orange wine - Also known as 'skin-contact', this wine takes white grapes and is treated as if they were red, leaving the skin on while juiced and macerated.

Golden - This extended skin contact creates colour and texture in a white wine, giving it a golden hue.

Margaret River, WA - Sam Vinciullo's Red/White half-merlot, half-semillon blend of 2016 is a clean, energetic and completely natural wine.

Gippsland, VIC - 2017 Patrick Sullivan Waterskin is an orange wine made with a half-Semillon, half-Sauvignon Blanc blend. Described as "bright fruit and punchy but very savoury. Great balance."
