In 1962, Helen Gurley Brown published her best seller ‘Sex and the Single Girl.’ Daring enough as it was, she also advocated the egg, steak, and wine diet: breakfast and lunch were an egg with a glass of white wine, and for dinner it was a steak instead of eggs, but still more wine.

Oddly specific rules for women -

According to one etiquette leaflet titled 'Lady Lessons–Hand Don’ts,' women of the '60s were advised not to allow their “hands to hang like dead fish," but fidgeting was also out, so they needed to be carefully placed.

The 1960s had some memorable hairstyles like the bouffant, which involved teasing your hair into a kind of dome.

Long-defunct Braniff International Airways and designer Emilio Pucci are credited with this bizarre glass helmet meant to protect the hairdos of air stewardesses when they crossed windswept runways.

The paper dress was one of the least practical things to come out of the decade, made from disposable cellulose fabric. It was a predictably short-lived fashion novelty item.

In the 1960s, they didn't take fresh squeezed juice for granted like we do! Powdered orange juice was very popular, dissolvable in a glass of water. Famed astronaut John Glenn was also said to be a fan of the drink, called Tang.

The banana bike first hit the market in 1963, and it resembled a chopper motorbike, though with pedals. People loved that it could hold more than one person.

Predicting the future with baby burps -

In 1964, psychiatrist Dr. Milton Berger reportedly announced that the strength of babies’ burps could predict their future. The more robust the burp, the more likely a baby would be a leader. This theory has not stood the test of time.

Periwinkle high -

Marijuana was not so easy to come by, so in 1967 a juvenile court in Florida heard how a 15-year-old boy and his friends had been smoking periwinkle leaves. America was gripped in fear about this new drug, and authorities issued warnings about the dangers of periwinkle, which apparently included hair loss.

Right through the 1960s, cigarettes could be openly promoted, and it was even said that pregnant women could smoke as long as it was less than 10 a day.
