Their target audience is female millennials, but their product is accessible to all.  Founded in 2012, by Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, The Daily Skimm is a newsletter that breaks down the day's most important global news. Focusing on short synopses in simple, easy-to-read language, The Skimm is a way to bring news to those who often go unaware, or find other news media a little too heavy.

Weisberg and Zakin met when they were studying abroad in Rome while in college. They both happened to be pursuing journalism careers, and both landed jobs as producers for NBC News.

According to their website, the idea came to them from their living room couch, and has spread to an audience around the globe.

The Skimm community quickly grew when celebrities such as Oprah, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Michelle Obama became vocal subscribers and supporters.

Now, in addition to their e-mail service, they have a news and events app, and produce video and audio stories that break down key topics. You can subscribe here to get this new kind of daily update!
