By connecting children who are dealing with grief around the world, a new video game is helping bereaved children get through hardships.

The social enterprise Bounce Works created the game and virtual world, Apart of Me. This is a digital "safe space" that young people can connect to 24/7 to discuss death and grief with those who can help.

"We all recognize that we need human connection to help us get through these really difficult times," Louis Weinstock, a child psychotherapist told World Hacks. "So this isn't about just hanging out on a mobile app. A big part of our design philosophy is encouraging offline interaction through this virtual world."

The video game takes users on a journey across a beautiful tropical island, where they learn to express their emotions calmly and develop coping mechanisms that can help them on their journey through grief in the real world.

Based on the fact that trauma and grieving don't always wait for a scheduled hour-long appointment with a professional every week, Apart of Me can give aid to children anytime, anywhere.
