There is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming year of entertainment. With women taking prominent roles on the big screen, 2018 is set to be the year of leading ladies. Check out these upcoming movies!
Starring Natalie Portman, 'Annihilation' is a sci-fi thriller that will follow five women through an environmental disaster zone called Area X in a race against time and nature. It premiered February 23.
2. 'Red Sparrow'
Jennifer Lawrence plays an injured Russian ballerina who is recruited to become a murderous spy. It premiered March 2.
3. 'A Wrinkle in Time'
Storm Reid, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and Mindy Kaling star in the film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's novel, 'A Wrinkle in Time.' These women are embracing their inner power to save time and the world—obviously a must-see. It premiered March 9.
4. 'Tomb Raider'
Alicia Vikander, playing Lara Croft, goes in search of her missing father in a mysterious tomb off the coast of Japan. It premieres March 16.
From the same writer of the film 'Juno,' this film follows a struggling mother of three, and the bond she creates with her nanny. It premieres April 20.
6. 'Ocean's 8'
The Ocean's series is now getting an all-female cast. With powerhouse actors such as Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, and Anne Hathaway, the group will attempt to steal a necklace from New York's Met Gala. It premieres June 8.
7. 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix'
Sophie Turner will play Jean Grey in a stand-alone film that explores her powers and turbulent backstory. It premieres November 2.
This thriller will follow four women who inherited their husband's debts after they died. Starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo, these women take the Chicago crime world by storm. It premieres November 16.
