Ever since 'Sex and the City' took over the hearts of viewers in the late 90s, everyone was been collectively begging for more and more content. Although the four fabulous female stars have moved on to different priorities, there is still hope for 'Sex & The City 3.'
The show's creator, Darren Star, recently discussed how Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, is running for New York governor and if that would halt all sequel possibilities.
"Let's see when she becomes governor, we can talk about how all that will work. You know, don't governors get hiatuses or something?... Sort of take a break from governing the great state of New York and do a movie? You never know!" Star said, according to Bustle.
However, even if the cast could get Nixon, there is no hope for Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha to rejoin the show. In a 2017 interview, the star wrote that her days playing the wild, sex-obsessed character are far behind her.
"Me playing her, that I can assure you will never happen. For me it’s over, it’s over with no regrets ... I’m at a point in my life where I am making decisions that make me happy and going backwards in life doesn’t make me happy," Cattrall said, Bustle reports.
While Cattrall may not be on board, she does hope that the sequel still happens, perhaps with some diversity this time. "I want them to make the movie, if that’s what they want to do. It’s a great part. I played it past the finish line and then some and I loved it and another actress should play it, maybe they could make it an African American Samantha Jones or a Hispanic Samantha Jones?" she said.
Even years after it's close, 'Sex and the City' continues to be one of the most popular franchises in entertainment history. Fingers are collectively crossed for the third installment.
