The first trailer for Jordan Peele’s newest horror film 'Us' dropped on Christmas morning, turning all that joyful cheer into chilling fear.

The film stars 'Black Panther' alums Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke as parents to Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex, forming an endearing American family. Set in present day along the gorgeous Northern California coastline, the horror flick tells the story of a happy vacation gone wrong, as the family soon becomes haunted by their own terrifying doppelgängers.

Elisabeth Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Tim Heidecker also appear in the director's highly-anticipated follow-up to 'Get Out,' which seems like it's going to be thrilling in a much more uncanny fashion.

"For my second feature, I wanted to create a monster mythology," Peele told Entertainment Weekly. "I wanted to do something that was more firmly in the horror genre but still held on to my love of movies that are twisted but fun."

He said he couldn't think of a supernatural horror movie with a family at the centre—like 'The Shining' and 'The Amityville Horror'—that uses a black family, though he apologized if he was missing something.

"I knew just by putting an African-American family in the lead role, already we would be exploring cinematic uncharted territory," he said.

This film, unlike 'Get Out,' is not about race, but it's equally as important regarding representation in the world of Hollywood. 'Us' makes great strides in a similar—but more subtle—way to Peele's prior film.

The horror flick will hit theatres in March 2019.
