Musician Moses Sumney is not a household name. But the American-Ghanaian artist recently graced the stage at the 90th Academy Awards. Performing the Oscar-nominated song ‘Mystery of Love’ with Sufjan Stevens and St. Vincent, Sumney had one hell of gig. The musician also served up some whip-smart commentary, live blogging his award show experience backstage. “A nervous white lady is doing my makeup and making me look like the lion from ‘The Wizard of Oz’”, Sumney wrote on Twitter, adding that “She didn’t have my shade (Black Panther Charcoal)”. The musician also tweeted about falling asleep at the ceremony and congratulated Jordan Peele for his ‘Get Out’ win.
The Oscars were Sumney’s first big move of the year, which follows a successful 2017. The musician released his debut album ‘Aromanticism’ in September last year. The album was critically praised for its romantic lyrics and expert guitar skills.
Moses Sumney will play a rare UK date this summer. He will perform at Field Day festival in London on June 1.
