Producers of Netflix drama ‘The Crown’ have shared some unsavoury secrets about actors’ pay. Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries spoke at the INTV conference in Jerusalem. They admitted that Matt Smith (who played Prince Philip) earned more than leading lady Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II). Foy won a Golden Globe for her performance, yet Matt Smith’s past role in ‘Doctor Who’ earned him a bigger salary. “Going forward, no-one gets paid more than the queen”, Mackie said, as reported by BBC News.
However it’s too late for Foy, who has been ejected from the show and replaced by Olivia Colman. Matt Smith has also left the show, as the plot moves from the 1960s to the ‘70s. ‘The Crown’ is one of the most expensive TV shows ever made. BBC News reports that it cost around £93 million to make the first series. They also reported that Foy earned around £28,000 per episode, although Matt Smith’s wage is unknown.
