‘Kim’s Convenience’ star claims racism at Wendy’s
Andrew Phung was also met with racism on Twitter
Andrew Phung, who plays Kimchee on CBC’s ‘Kim’s Convenience,’ says he overheard racist remarks directed at him in a Wendy’s.
“I sat down @Wendys to enjoy some dope $3 spicy chicken sandwiches when a lady says ‘Ugh, why do you CHINKS always sit near me?’ I was livid! I was ready to lay down a verbal smackdown. But, she wasn't worth it. Instead I sat down,” he tweeted.
Phung says he doesn’t blame Wendy’s though, and that the employee on duty at the time was great with him.
“Wendy's has given me so much. And a staff member came by to check on me. She then went up to the racist lady who began ‘shooing’ her away. It was odd. The Wendy's employee and I bonded over this experience.”
The incident occured in Phung’s hometown of Calgary.
While the actor was mostly met with supportive messages, at least one person responded to his story with a further racist comment.
But, as you can see, it didn’t faze him.
Phung’s not letting anyone tarnish his love of Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwiches!
