With the world mourning Stephen Hawking, it’s important to take a look at the non-scientific contributions he made in his life. As BBC News points out, the physicist recently showed up for a radio play. He voiced a character for ‘The Hitchhiker's’ Guide to the Galaxy Mark II’. “I have been quite popular in my time”, the character mused, “some even read my books”.
Hawking’s self-referential humour showed up in many TV shows and films across the years. He famously cameoed on ‘The Simpsons’ a number of times. He first starred in the 1999 episode ‘They Saved Lisa’s Brain’, exiting one scene by using his wheelchair as a helicopter. As BBC News points out, he also showed up in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’. The scientist appeared as a hologram, playing cards with Albert Einstein and Sir Isaac Newton. Hawking also joked around for science-themed sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Sheldon explains that “it’s an honour and a privilege” to meet Hawking, to which the scientist replies “I know”.
Hawking also made hilarious appearances in ‘Little Britain’, ‘Monty Python: The Meaning of Live’ and a series of skits for ‘Comic Relief’. Take a look at a scene in which he gets a new voice over on YouTube.
