Whether you're interested in learning more about other cultures or just want to take the time to meditate and get in touch with your spiritual side, you might want to take a trip to one of the country's many sacred sites. From beautiful temples to labyrinths to mountains inhabited by a fire goddess, this country has been home to many peoples, and many have found spiritual connection here.

Take the time to walk through sparkling sands or meditate ocean-side. Just make sure to be respectful of the cultures for whom these places are holy.

▲The largest of several medicine wheels in the American west, this site is made up of rocks arranged in a circular shape, with 28 spokes connecting the circle to a cairn at the center.
▲It is suggested that the wheel was built by the Plains Indians 300-800 years ago. Today, it is known to accurately predict the summer solstice and is sacred to multiple tribes.
▲This caldera lake is the deepest lake in the country. To the Klamath tribe, it's a sacred site.
▲The ancestors of the Klamath tribe may have witnessed the collapse of Mount Mazama, which formed Crater Lake thousands of years ago, describing the event as a battle between the gods of the sky and the underworld. The site was once used in vision quests.
▲You can find this labyrinth on a mountain near San Francisco, right above the Pacific ocean.
▲You can walk its path as a meditative process, listen to the waves, and experience its sacred geometry.
▲"Denali" means "the high one" or "the great one," and has long been regarded as holy by the native peoples who have lived under its looming presence.
▲There are legends of spirits that live in the mountain, and it is a significant win that the mountain, previously called "Mt. McKinley," was renamed "Denali" by the Obama administration.
▲There are only seven Bahá'í structures in the world, and one is located a short drive outside of Chicago.
▲The beautiful space is a place of worship for people of the Bahá'í faith, but the grounds are open to visitors of all religions for quiet meditation.
▲The active volcano is said to be home to Pele, the fire goddess.
▲According to local legend, she is agreeable if treated with respect, but if you're disrespectful or take rocks from the volcano, you could find yourself in a world of lava-related trouble.
▲It's not clear who built this 1,330-foot-long prehistoric effigy mound, but some say it depicts a serpent swallowing an egg.
▲The Adena people built burial grounds near the structure, but they are not thought to have built the structure itself.
▲This beautiful Buddhist temple can be found in California, though its design is strictly in the traditional Chinese style.
▲Protective figures line the roof, a serene courtyard sits in the center of the temple, and inside you'll find an art gallery.
▲The mountain is considered to be sacred by native tribes, who still perform rituals there, but it also draws many non-natives who speak of the mountain's spiritual pull.
▲Some even believe in the legend of Telos, a crystal city said to exist in the mountain. They say it's inhabited by people from the lost continent of Lemuria.
▲People say this beautiful area of Arizona has vortices, which are allegedly swirling centers of energy that can leave you feeling rejuvenated.
▲For this reason, it's a site many choose to use for mediation, yoga, and getting spiritually back in touch with themselves.
▲The sparkling white sands in this site are a stark white. They are said to inspire childlike joy in those who visit.
▲Many have claimed to have seen UFOs in this spot, but it's also the site of many vision quests by native peoples.
▲These extensive ruins lie in the New Mexico desert, a crumbling architectural wonder created by the native peoples of the area long ago.
▲The Chaco Canyon complex is said to have been the Anasazi culture's primary social and ceremonial center.
▲This pink-tinged dome of rock has drawn many visitors. It is said that more than 10,000 years ago, the boulder was considered to have origins in the supernatural world.
▲Apparently long ago, it groaned, creaked, and was surrounded by ghostly flames.
▲This jutting volcanic rock formation rises high over the desert in New Mexico.
▲According to Navajo myth, the rock was once a bird that carried people on its back to its current location. It turned back into stone, then was hit by lightning, harming the people around it and making it a ghostly relic of a tenuous past.
▲This modern Michigan mosque takes its design inspiration from more traditional mosques.

The center is open to visitors, dialogue, and collaboration.
