A Canadian rapper has made UK chart history. Drake became the first artist to have two number one songs that have charted for over nine weeks. His single ‘God’s Plan’ has been number one since its release in January this year. Drake’s 2016 single ‘One Dance’ sat atop the UK singles chart for a whopping 15 weeks, the second longest consecutive number one in history. It was quite a feat, considering ‘One Dance’ didn’t even have a music video. This meant listeners flocked to streaming services and the iTunes store to download the single.
‘God’s Plan’, however, has a viral music video that has contributed to its success. Directed by Karena Evans, the videoo has amassed over 300 million views on YouTube. It features Drake giving away nearly $1 million to people in Miami. The charitable video sees Drake give cheques and cash to underprivileged families and services. Heartwarming stuff.
