Cumberbatch to play Vote Leave strategist in new Brexit drama
The actor will play key Vote Leave player Dominic Cummings
Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in a new drama documenting the Brexit process. The actor will play Dominic Cummings, the campaign director for the Vote Leave movement. The TV film, reportedly called ‘Brexit’, is being produced by Channel 4. The two-hour special will “explore the myriad tactics employed to swing one of the most surprising referendum results in living memory”, according to BBC News. Apparently, the story will take place in the moments leading up to the EU referendum in 2016. The BBC reports that the special will “will explore the anatomy of a modern data-driven election campaign, and the divisive figures driving it from the shadows”.
Cumberbatch’s character led the Vote Leave campaign. As a leading strategist, Dominic Cummings had a very popular campaign strategy. He apparently also came up with the official slogan: “take back control”. Channel 4 are promising that their show will not be biased. Instead, the special will simply tell the story of how, and why, the Vote Leave movement campaign was successful on July 19.
