Ireland is currently undergoing divisive legal action surrounding their constitutions ruling on abortion. On May 25, the country will vote on keeping or repealing the Eighth Amendment, which bans abortions in almost all circumstances. Now, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has become a part of the controversy due to the Pro Life Campaign using his song 'Small Bump.'
Sheeran took to his Instagram stories to clear the air about the use of his work. “I’ve been informed that my song ‘Small Bump’ is being used to promote the Pro-Life campaign, and I feel it’s important to let you know I have not given approval for this use,” he wrote. Sheeran also explained that “it does not reflect what the song is about.”
In a past interview, Sheeran has shared the meaning behind the song, saying it was about a close friend who had a stillbirth five months into her pregnancy, according to Interview Magazine.
