A new internet campaign in support of people with hair loss, or those with the hereditary condition alopecia, is going viral online. Posting #Alopeciaisfashion, users are trying to show just how beautiful baldness can be.
The campaign was started by a woman named Claire from the UK who experienced hair loss after using straightening treatment and relaxers.
"What really struck me was the sense of isolation, the shame as well. We already have the standards that have been laid out within the fashion industry of what a model on the catwalk should look like," Claire told the BBC. "Fashion is alopecia. We are going to use our campaign to blend it into the fashion industry and change perceptions.
Alopecia affects an estimated eight million women in the UK alone. By raising awareness about not only the condition but how to find beauty in your body image, this viral campaign is helping change the fashion industry one hairstyle at a time.
