When Australia condemns a country or ruling entity for human rights abuses or aggressive military action towards an ally, we sanction them.
These sanctions prevent companies in Australia from doing business with those countries or ruling entities and prevent people associated with those regimes from coming to Australia.
Sometimes the Commonwealth government will autonomously sanction a government of another country and other times will do sanction in conjunction with the United Nations Security Council.
