For the first time in recent memory, the city with the most billionaires isn't in the US. 

The trend towards younger billionaires, wealthy off the tech sector and coming increasingly from Asia appears to have broken through the old guard, contradicting long-held beliefs about where the concentration of wealth really lies. 

Here are the cities that have the most billionaires in the world, according to Statista. 

▲There are 27 billionaires in Istanbul, Turkey as of 2018, most of whom make their money in food manufacturing, finance, construction, media, and retail.
▲Murat Ülker, owner of Godiva Chocolatier, is the richest person in Turkey, followed by Hüsnü Özyeğin, who founded Finansbank.
▲There are 28 billionaires living in São Paulo, Brazil, where there are more helicopters and bulletproof vehicles than most places in the world.
▲While the average income of a São Paulo billionaire is US$4.6 billion, around two million people in the city live in slums.
▲New Delhi, India is home to 29 billionaires who make their money in petrochemicals, software, steel, construction, and pharmaceuticals.
▲Mukesh Ambani is the wealthiest Indian person, worth US$43.7 billion, followed by Azim Premji who's worth US$21 billion.
▲There are 30 billionaires in Seoul, South Korea who are making their money in technology, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
▲Lee Kun-Hee, chairman of Samsung, has been South Korea's richest person for years, and Jae Y. Lee, the chairman's son, is number three. Bio-pharma business-founder Seo Jung-Jin saw his net worth increase by 500% over the past year to attain second place.
▲Taipei, Taiwan is also home to 30 billionaires, though the semi-autonomous island was one of the few places where the richest people saw their wealth shrink.
▲Taiwan's wealthiest person is Terry Gou, founder of the Apple parts supplier Hon Hai Precision Industry, but he's seen his wealth decline by 23%.
▲Island nation Singapore has 31 billionaires living on its soil, making their money in real estate, social media, and banking.
▲Robert and Philip Ng, two brothers in real estate, are worth US$11.9 billion and are Singapore's richest people. But they're closely followed by Eduardo Saveri, worth US$11.8 billion, who co-founded Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard.
▲San Francisco, US is also home to 31 billionaires and has seen more and more of them in recent years, mostly profiting off of success in the technology market.
▲The likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, and Elon Musk all live in the San Francisco area.
▲In a three-way tie with Singapore and San Francisco, there are also 31 billionaires living in Tokyo, Japan.
▲Masayoshi Son is Japan's wealthiest person, worth US$21.9 billion. He founded the mobile SoftBank. He's closely followed by Tadashi Yanai, founder of clothing giant Fast Retailing.
▲The French capital has 36 billionaires living in it.
▲Louis Vuitton founder Bernard Arnault is France's richest person, worth US$87.4 billion. The second richest in the country is the family of L'Oreal founder Liliane Bettencourt, worth US$36.1 billion.
▲The Chinese city of Guangzhou has 37 billionaires living there, and is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world.
▲The population of billionaires in the Chinese city near Hong Kong nearly doubled between 2017 and 2018.
▲Hangzhou, China is home to 38 billionaires and is the birthplace of AliBaba founder Jack Ma. 
▲AliBaba, Amazon's biggest competitor, is headquartered in Hangzhou. 
▲There are 43 billionaires living in Bangkok, Thailand.
▲The Chearavanont brothers are Thailand's wealthiest, worth US$30 billion, while the Chirathivat family is in second place, worth US$21.2 billion.
▲India's largest city Mumbai has 55 billionaires, the richest among them is Mukesh Ambani. 
▲Mukesh Ambani is worth US$18 billion, and is the chairman of the petrochemical and energy company, Reliance Industries.
▲The Russian capital is home to 62 billionaires, the richest among them is Vladimir Lisin, who runs a steel and transportation company.
▲Vladimir Lisin is worth US$19.1 billion and is closely followed by Alexey Mordashov, who is worth US$18.7 billion.
▲There are 70 billionaires living in London, UK, with the richest being Srichand Parmanand Hinduja. 
▲Srichand Parmanand Hinduja is worth US$15.4 billion, slightly more than brothers David and Simon Reuben, who are worth US$15.3 billion.
▲China's biggest city has 70 billionaires living in it, tying with the likes of London.
▲China as a country has seen a massive surge in its billionaires, particularly ones under 40 years of age.
▲There are 78 billionaires living in Shenzhen, the Chinese city on Hong Kong's northern border. 
▲Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou are all very close geographically, and are increasingly forming a mega-metropolis of a combined 40 million people. But Hong Kong is still politically separate from the other two cities.
▲There are 80 billionaires living in Hong Kong, the richest being Li Ka-shing. 
▲Li Ka-shing is worth US$36 billion and has investments in ports and utilities. Lee Shau Kee is worth US$32 billion, mostly from property development.
▲America's biggest city is home to 92 billionaires, like the Big Apple's former mayor Michael Bloomberg. New York had more billionaires than any other city in the world until this year.
▲Media moguls Rupert Murdoch and Michael Bloomberg, hedge fund manager Steven Cohen, and Walmart heiress Alice Walton (along with Russian and Chinese expats) help make up New York's billionaire population.
▲For the first time in history, Beijing has surpassed New York for the title of most billionaires, with a whopping 131 living in the Chinese capital. 
▲Tech magnates like Robin Li and Liu Qiangdong have been the face of recent billionaires, while real estate giants like Lu Zhiqiang make up the old guard.
