Based on an article about New York street races, 'The Fast and the Furious' was a hit, grossing US$207 million.

▲

The hit franchise got its start with 'The Fast and the Furious' in 2001.

▲

The film follows Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker), a police officer who goes undercover into the world of street racing.

▲'2 Fast 2 Furious' actually came with two scripts. One featured Vin Diesel, and the other didn't. Diesel didn't return for the film, so Universal went with the other story.
▲The story continued with '2 Fast 2 Furious,' in which O'Connor calls upon Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), an old friend who helps in a criminal case.
▲The franchise raced into the future for 'Tokyo Drift' in 2006. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel stepped out, and the film followed student Sean Boswell, played by Lucas Black.
▲'Tokyo Drift' has become a cult favorite in the franchise. However, it doesn't really connect to the greater story at hand.
▲This film also introduced Ludacris to the series. He plays Tej Parker, a race host and old friend of O'Connor.
▲

For 'Fast Five,' Toretto and his crew plan a US$100 million heist, evading a Brazilian drug lord and a cunning federal agent.

▲'Fast Five' broke box-office records, and grossed over US$620 million.
▲The drifts in the movie were performed by pro drivers. Famous rally drivers like Rhys Millen flew in to complete the stunts.
▲The fun continued with 'Fast & Furious 6.' Secret agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) steps into the fray, reassembling the crew to take down a team of mercenaries.
▲Apparently, over 100 cars were crashed, smashed, and destroyed during filming.
▲Michelle Rodriguez also returned as Letty, a hard-as-nails street racer.
▲'Fast & Furious' was also Gal Gadot's first film. She went on to play the title role in 'Wonder Woman.'
▲The film was originally conceived as two films, but Justin Lin combined the action into one hit movie.
▲For one scene, a flatbed truck crashes into a moving train. This was filmed practically, and the stunt nearly derailed the train.
▲'Furious 7' was a monumental film for the franchise, with huge changes to the overarching story.
▲They took things back with 'Fast & Furious.' The film takes place after the first film. Vin Diesel returned as Dominic Toretto, who helps O'Conner with a new case.
▲'Furious 7' was Paul Walker's final film. He died in a car crash before the film was released, and the departure was written into the story.
▲Worlds collided in 'Hobbs & Shaw,' a film that served as a spin-off from 'The Fast and the Furious.' It stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
▲The Rock and Diesel fought in the film, and they actually feuded in real life too. At one point, The Rock wrote that he was leaving the film on Instagram, but the duo resolved their differences.
▲The mayhem continued with 'The Fate of the Furious,' a breakneck blockbuster that grossed over US$1.2 billion.
▲Dom Toretto gets seduced into the world of terrorism, and the rest of the crew reckon with taking him down.
▲

The 2019 film has grossed over US$759 million worldwide.

▲

This animated show premiered on Netflix in December 2019. It follows Tony Toretto (voiced by Tyler Posey), Dominic Toretto's younger cousin. Vin Diesel is one of the show's executive producers.

▲Idris Elba joined as Brixton, an international crime lord who, get this, is bulletproof.
▲The film stars Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, who hunts after Dominic Toretto and the clan.
▲

A sequel to 2017's 'The Fate of the Furious,' 'F9' was released internationally on May 19, 2021, and in the US on June 25.

Something no one saw coming: the 'Fast and Furious' franchise is a staple of modern cinema. It's one of the most successful film series ever, grossing over US$5 billion worldwide. With huge stars like The Rock, Vin Diesel, and Jason Statham, the series has been a success since its start in 2001.

However, after more than two decades of fast-paced action, the film series is finally coming to an end. The 10th movie, titled 'Fast X,' finally arrives in theaters on May 19, 2023, and is packed with the thrilling excesses the franchise is famous for.  It was originally scheduled for release in 2021, but 'F9' took its spot due to the pandemic delays. The Louis Leterrier-directed film stars, of course, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and Tyrese Gibson, with the likes of Brie Larson and Jason Momoa adding extra star power. Dwayne Johnson is notably absent from the list after leaving the franchise due to tension with the star, Vin Diesel. The franchise's longtime director Justin Lin also chose not to be involved in the finale, having also reportedly had major disagreements with Diesel. Regardless, 'Fast X' looks to be a fitting end to one of the most successful film franchises in history.
