News of NASA's recent New Horizons spacecraft flyby past a snowman-shaped rock in deep space has scientists in a flutter. Nicknamed "Ultima Thule," the remote object was photographed 6.5 billion km (4 billion mi) from Earth—currently the farthest object in the solar system visited by an interplanetary space probe.
