▲Many strange songs have charted around the world. In 2019, the UK charts were blessed with 'Let Nature Sing' by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
▲Have you ever realized that mother nature actually makes a lot of great music? Rainfall is fantastic study music, while thunder is basically the boldest black metal you can find. Then there's mother nature's band members: animals. Whether it's a rooster's cry or a whale's bellowing call, many animals have unique sounds that are naturally musical. Meanwhile in the UK, a song consisting of just bird sounds charted above ubiquitous pop hits. Many artists have used animals in their own music, be it the Beatles with blackbirds or Missy Elliott with an elephant's trumpet. Click on for the best examples of animals featured on songs.
▲Brian Wilson had a big influence over the Beach Boys' music, and his love of animals transcended into the music.
▲The song is made up of 25 different birds singing with each other. "Thousands of people have bought and streamed our track to hear nature's finest singers and show that they love bird song," said the RSPB's director of conservation.
▲Missy Elliott used a distinct animal sound effect in 'Work It.'
▲Baauer might not be that big anymore, but he scored one of the most popular hits of the decade with 'Harlem Shake.'
▲Run the Jewels are a popular rap duo with a loyal fanbase. Back in 2014, they promised fans they would remix their 'Run the Jewels 2' mixtape with cat noises.
▲At the end of 'Caroline, No,' the last track from 'Pet Sounds,' you can hear a chorus of dogs barking.
▲The Avalanches are an Australian outfit who have sampled thousands of songs over 20 years.
▲The alternative rockers got some animalistic help on 'Been Caught Stealing.' Dogs bark at the beginning of this song, which is about burglary.
▲'Work It' features an elephant trumpet, which serves as an innuendo for a man's private parts. "If you've got a big [trumpet] let me search it," she raps.
▲'Meow the Jewels' features the rappers spitting bars over cats whining, purring, and meowing. The remix album was released after fans raised over US$60,000 for the band.
▲Deadmau5 is a popular DJ and producer. He hasn't sampled any dead mice, but he did sample the sound of a rattlesnake on 'Strobe.'
▲Ratatat once toured with Super Furry Animals, and got some animal help on their track 'Wildcat.'
▲On 'Frontier Psychiatrist,' the group sampled a horse whinnying as well as a parrot trying to talk. It actually became a chart hit around the world.
▲The song features a distinctive lion's roar, which is used as part of the song's percussion.
▲"I'd got her from a dog shelter and she was quite needy [...] I'm singing in the booth with the headphones on and [she] gets all excited [...] The fact that she ended up on the track was just pure coincidence," said Perry Farrell.
▲The human here is Panda Bear, a musician who's also part of the band Animal Collective. He recently worked with Solange on her 2019 album.
▲That's right, the 11-minute EDM track features a rattlesnake's rattling tail throughout.
▲'Wildcat' actually features a wildcat screaming on the song, just listen for yourself.
▲They had blackbirds on 'Blackbird' and pigs on 'Piggies,' but for 'Good Morning Good Morning,' The Beatles went the extra mile.
▲Engineer Geoff Emerick compiled a collage of animal sounds. John Lennon's request? Each animal had to intimidate the one before. So: rooster, birds, cat, dog, cow, horse, sheep, lion, elephant, and finally a foxhunt.
▲The second parrot on this list featured on a song from the Steve Miller Band, titled 'Jungle Love.'
▲With the Smiths, Morrissey frequently wrote political lyrics that addressed social issues. On 'Meat Is Murder,' he went to the next level.
▲The song addresses Morrissey's issues with the food industry. Towards the end, you can hear what seems to be the cries of dozens of different animals.
▲The country rock band had quite a name, and kept their quirkiness up with the song 'Chicken Train Stomp.'
▲

'Lovin' You' was perhaps Riperton's biggest hit, reaching number one in the US. The song prominently features bird song, and was produced by Stevie Wonder.

You're also welcome to meet these genius animals with amazing jobs.

▲Panda Bear opened his track 'Bros,' with the sound of an owl hooting.
▲Among many other things, Minnie Riperton was famous for her four-octave coloratura soprano range. She could also use the whistle register with ease.
▲It wasn't a huge hit, but the parrot sound effect still kept Steve Miller's name relevant until the success of 'Abracadabra' in 1982.
▲

The track notably features the sounds of chickens. It featured on the record 'The Ozark Mountain Daredevils.'
