Alexander Skarsgård has shown versatility across roles in things like 'Big Little Lies,' 'True Blood,' 'Succession,' and most recently 'The Northman,' but he says it wasn't easy for him at the beginning of his acting career.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the Swedish actor said he felt like his physical appearance kept him from being considered for more serious roles earlier on. "I don't really know if that was the reason I wasn't getting roles," he said. "Starting out in Sweden, there was stuff about being tall and blond. But most people here are tall and blond."

"Still, after my first job, I was on a stupid 'attractive hunky hot list' and then people didn't take me seriously," he continued. "If you want characters with depth but have been labeled 'a dude who takes his shirt off,' you're not going to get those offers." Fortunately, Skarsgård eventually saw his career take off after booking the HBO limited series 'Generation Kill.'
