No actor can boast a perfect résumé, but with Chris Pratt’s launch into Marvel Universe and 'Jurassic Park' fame, many often forget that he’s been anything other than a film franchise favorite. He seems to be in hit after hit, becoming a red carpet staple and Hollywood heartthrob, but his career hasn’t always been a bed of roses.
Like most struggling actors trying to make it, Pratt was waiting tables hoping for his big break. Luckily for him, it actually happened! A film director walked in, complimented him on his looks, asked if he was an actor, and a mere four days later he found himself in Los Angeles.
If that director had taken a liking to another waiter, Pratt might've still been waiting tables. Or, he might've continued making money as a stripper, living out of his van on the beach in Maui after dropping out of community college.
But even after he got into the industry, there was no guarantee that he would be a hit. The actor has appeared in numerous films, in roles both big and small, that have been highly criticized—or worse, they’ve been unworthy of a closer examination. That being said, he’s also landed small roles in widely successful films and benefited greatly from the association. And, of course, his talent and sense of humor has come through in various lauded roles.

This 2021 sci-fi adventure flick had a budget of US$200 million and reportedly made only US$19.2 million. Critics said it wasn't terrible, but that it was completely unmemorable.
Though it was the best opening weekend for a non-superhero film amid the pandemic, the 2022 instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise is the lowest-rated film of the series on both Rotten Tomatoes (an average rating of 4.8/10) and Metacritic (3.8/10).
The year 2023 has been a big one for Pratt! He played the starring role of Mario in Universal's highly anticipated 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie.' It became the first movie based on a video game to break US$1 billion at the box office.
Pratt also starred in the third and final film of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' series, which was another of the highest-grossing films of the year. The movie was a critical success and fans felt it was a fitting send-off for the beloved franchise.
