Rocky looked pretty cool with his '70s clothes and accessories. We love the hat!

▲

Rocky Balboa is one of the most iconic characters in film history, and indeed a defining role in Sylvester Stallone's successful career.

▲

This is a tough one to answer. They both look pretty good. Not so long ago, Rocky was in the ring, and later moved on to passing along his knowledge.

▲

Rocky trained hard, and we mean really hard! Mickey, his coach, had him doing really demanding workouts. It paid off in the end though!

▲

Self-doubt and a tough upbringing left scars, and so did the people the boxer lost along the way. Namely his wife, Adrian Pennino (Talia Shire), and his friend, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers).

▲

'Rocky IV' in particular has heavy Cold War overtones. The American fighter who wins against the Soviet fighter.

▲

Rocky is a boxer, so he has beaten up quite a few guys. He has even fought Mr. T!

▲

Rocky Balboa was all about the American Dream. From the streets of Philadelphia to the limelight, in America everything is possible with hard work and dedication!

▲

Rocky had Adrian (Talia Shire), the love of his life, who sadly passed away from cancer (between 'Rocky V' and 'Rocky Balboa').

▲

Both dealt with pretty traumatic experiences, but it looks like Rocky managed to tackle these a bit better.

▲

And a highly-trained and heavily steroid-enhanced fighter from the USSR. He basically won the Cold War with that fight!

▲

Both franchises are very American: the underdog who became a boxing champion through hard work, and the war veteran who fought for his country and continues to fight for freedom.

▲

Rambo also got involved in the Soviet–Afghan War, perpetuating the Cold War narrative.

▲

Rambo, on the other hand, looks really buff. He's clearly bigger and more muscular than Rocky.

▲

As a war veteran, he has it all. From post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to survivor's guilt, John Rambo is a mean machine with deep emotional scars.

▲

Rambo has to take this one, even if only for the sheer amount of bullets he put in so many people.

▲

Rambo is much more of a lone wolf. He had a fling with Co Bao, a Vietnamese freedom fighter who helped him, but nothing comparable with the Rocky and Adrian story.

▲

Both showed their love for their country in different ways. Rocky would make a great diplomat. Rambo, on the other hand, would probably resort to violence much quicker.

▲

This is an easy one. 'Eye of the Tiger,' anyone? Of course, Rocky takes the trophy!

▲

Rambo is also in great shape, and up until 'Rambo: Last Blood' he was still doing pretty okay at kicking bad guys' butts!

▲

Well Rambo was in Vietnam, so that says something about him too! And it’s not like he’s taking a break from killing bad guys either.

▲

Despite the poor reviews for the (allegedly) last film of the franchise, no one can deny that John Rambo is, and will always be, a classic action movie hero from the '80s. So, who's your favorite?

▲

As a fighter, Rocky is all about using his fists. Rambo, on the other hand, has a taste for weapons. The bigger, the better!

▲

We say it's a tie. Rocky is in impeccable physical shape, but Rambo definitely looks the part.

▲

Rambo's headband is truly iconic. As for clothes, he loved his combat gear: camo, a tank top (or no top at all!) is his trademark image. We'll leave it up to you to decide who was the more fashionable of the pair.

▲

Both Rocky and Rambo have their demons. Surely some are catalysts for taking action and being the best at what they do, but who is the more troubled character?

▲

Like other Vietnam War veterans, Rambo didn’t have the support he needed from the US government.

Rocky Balboa was Sylvester Stallone's breakthrough role. The boxer from Philadelphia conquered our hearts with his humbleness and work ethic. A few years later, John Rambo comes onto the scene. The tough Vietnam veteran was love at first sight for action movie fans, and the franchise was a hit. These are indisputably the most iconic roles in Sylvester Stallone’s career, both as an actor and as a screenwriter. But which franchise is the best?

Here are a few factors that can help you decide who wins. Click through the following gallery and draw your own conclusions.
