Surprisingly, despite the ongoing conflict, Ukraine comes in at number 30 on the list with 14.2 million arrivals. In the first six months of 2023 alone they collected over US$2 million from tourist taxes. These taxes are paid by hotel guests and contribute to the regional budget.
The Czech Republic has a long tourism history and boasted 14.3 million arrivals. Its capital city, Prague, is one of the most visited cities in the world! Fun fact: the Czech Republic is one of the top countries for dental tourism.
Singapore comes in 28th place with 15.1 million arrivals. The country is home to a lot of English speakers which makes it much simpler for tourists to communicate with the locals when needed. Hong Kong had its Lunar New Year in early February received 1.25 million mainland Chinese visitors for the festiviities. In general, Hong Kong brought in 23.8 million arrivals.
Despite severe controversy in the country, Russia had 24.4 million arrivals. It has experienced a decline over the years in visitors but somehow it still manages to come in at number 16 on the list.
