Democracy is in trouble around the world due to rising corruption, according to Transparency International. 

Their recently released study analyzing the corruption level of each country finds that unfortunately, most countries are getting worse. 

Countries like the US, Brazil, and Australia all saw increases in corruption, while Senegal, Estonia, and the Ivory Coast have improved.  

Without further ado, here are the most and least corrupt countries in the world. Are you surprised?

▲The land of fire and ice is known for its progressive culture and has a score of 76.
▲The semi-autonomous city is the fourth-highest ranked city in the Asia Pacific and also has a score of 76.
▲The winter sports capital of Europe, this landlocked nation got a score of 76.
▲Down Under has seen its transparency score drop significantly over the past two years.
▲The United Kingdom is perennially in the news for Brexit, and has seen its transparency score slowly slip over the past three years, now sitting at 80.
▲Tiny but wealthy, the nation of Luxembourg has a transparency score of 81. While that's quite high, it's slipped from its score of 85 in 2015.
▲Canada is the highest-ranked country for transparency in the Americas, with a score of 81. That's slipped slightly from a score of 83 in 2015.
▲The Netherlands are the highest-ranked EU country outside of Scandinavia, with a score of 82.
▲Despite being ranked one of the most transparent countries in the world, Norway's score has tumbled significantly to a score of 84 from a score of 88 in 2015. 
▲Known as the world's bank, Switzerland has a transparency score of 85. 
▲World hockey champions and IKEA creators, Sweden also has a transparency score of 85.
▲This unique, island city-state has some of the strictest rules in the world for littering and financial practices. Singapore also has a transparency score of 85.
▲Longtime transparency leader Finland has seen its score drop five points since 2015, but is still ahead most of the world with a score of 85.
▲The Asia-Pacific's transparency leader is the home of the Kiwis, with a transparency score of 87. 
▲The least corrupt country in the world is Denmark, with a transparency score of 88.
▲The Central African country's government has banned social media for nearly a year and has a transparency score of 19.

▲This Sub-Saharan African country has had the same score for the past two years, skating by with a low 16.
