What is the expectation effect, and why does it matter?
Learn about the importance of attitude when it comes to drinking
LIFESTYLE Drinking
It's difficult to reach adulthood and not have a perception of what it means to be drunk. Whether you drink or not, it's clear that alcohol impacts a person's behavior, whether they become considerably less inhibited or even more aggressive when drunk.
This is strange, however, since the active ingredient in alcohol (ethanol) is actually a depressant. Enter the 'expectation effect,' the idea that our drunken behavior is to a large extent dictated by how we expect we'll behave.
