Despite recent divisiveness, Americans find common ground in more things than you might think. In fact, according to YouGov polling data, there are various topics on which most Americans agree on. The data, comprising surveys, polls, and trackers, was obtained between January 2022 and September 2022. The 1,500 respondents were representative of the US population, including different ages, genders, races, education level, political party affiliations, and income level.In this gallery, we reveal some surprising things most of the Americans who participated in the surveys agree on. A whopping 73% of respondents agree that teachers are underpaid and that they deserve to earn more money for their work.

According to YouGov data, 67% of respondents think the government should consider medical-debt forgiveness.

Inflation is going up, and with it the cost of living. The big problem is that wages are not increasing at the same rate as inflation. A whopping 88% of respondents said inflation is a big issue for them.

Catholic priests take vows of celibacy, but 69% of the surveyed Americans believe these men of the cloth should be allowed to marry. In fact, some 64% think this measure would reduce the number of child abuse cases.

Social welfare programs do get a lot of criticism, but it turns out most people think they’re actually fine. Over 70% of people have favorable views of social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP (food stamps), etc.

Honesty is the best policy, and that includes the president, of course. So much so that 89% of the surveyed Americans believe that honesty is the most important presidential quality.

Yes, if there was ever any debate over this, 73% think that Texas has the best barbecued meats, including brisket and smoked sausages. Tennessee, Louisiana, Kansas, and South Carolina were also strong contenders, but the Lone Star State outranked them all.

Americans really like their military, with 77% expressing a favorable view of the Navy, Army, Air Force, and the Coast Guard.

Despite the many controversies over the years, 68% have favorable views of local police, 65% support the state police, 62% have favorable views of county sheriffs, and 60% think the U.S. Border Patrol is doing a good job.

The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommended this in September 2022, and it turns out 63% of respondents somewhat agree or strongly agree with these screenings.

Be it in TV shows, podcasts, or documentaries, true crime content is seen in a positive light by 63% of respondents, who say it helps them understand how the criminal justice system works.

The 9/11 attacks not only changed America, but they changed the world at large. At least 40% think it changed a lot, while 41% believe it changed a little.

Of all the surveyed Americans, 67% said that a monarchy would be bad for the country, whereas 12% say it would be neither good nor bad. Only 8% think a monarchy would be a good idea in America.

Lack of childcare access and affordability prevents mothers from working outside their homes, with 38% claiming it to happen very often, and 33% somewhat often.

The relationship between the neighbors has been a good one for many years, so it makes sense that 64% agree that the US should aid Canada in case of an armed conflict.

Of all the surveyed Americans, 68% believe that racism remains somewhat of a problem in the country, with 59% saying that race relations are not in great shape either.

The relationship between Russia and the US has always been tense, but things really deteriorated in recent years, especially after the invasion of Ukraine. As a result, 85.3% of respondents believe Russia to be an enemy.

Russia, however, is not the only enemy of the US. It turns out 79.9% of people also consider China to be an enemy of America. In 2017, only 43.5% held this view.

When asked about whether or not the Founding Fathers would approve of how the country is being run, 65% responded that they would be disappointed.

This has become a prominent topic in recent years, with a whopping 86% of respondents being of the opinion that recording cops while they’re on duty should be legal.

The flag of the United States of America is loved by many. In fact, 77% of respondents said that the Stars and Stripes is a positive symbol.

The Presidential Records Act ensures that presidential records go to the National Archives after a president’s term has ended. According to the survey, 69% of respondents support it.

The duration of election campaigns and the number of candidate ads people see are controlled in many countries, and usually range from weeks to months. In the US, however, candidates can announce they’re running two years in advance! As a result, 64% of respondents believe there are too many ads.

Of those surveyed, 61% think that illegal immigration is a problem in the country, and 59% believe it’s an actual crisis.

Homelessness has gone up in recent years, and so have rents and mortgages, so 60% of Americans agree that spending on public housing should increase.

While there are financial worries among Americans, job security does not seem to be a big one, with 61% claiming that they're not concerned about losing their job.

During the pandemic in 2020, a policy protected tenants from being evicted by landlords. This policy, however, has expired, and rents went up for many. Just over 60% of respondents support the creation of policies to control rent increases.

Queen Elizabeth II died September 8, 2022, and the US lowered flags to half-staff in her memory. It turns out that 64% of Americans supported this decision.

America has grown more partisan in recent years. At least that’s what most respondents believe. In fact, 71% of those believe the country is more divided and more partisan than ever.

When it comes to presidential qualities, 87% believe that the ability to unite all Americans is a very important one.
