Throughout the course of human history, there have been several cases of individuals going missing that have captivated and bewildered authorities, loved ones, and the general public. While some of these missing persons have eventually been located, the whereabouts of others continue to be a mystery.

This man was a diver in the British navy. In 1956 he was recruited for a reconnaissance mission on a Soviet ship. He suited up, dived, and was never seen again.

One of the most well-known tales of disappearance in the United States. On October 30, 1926, Clark got on a bus in Portland, Oregon to visit his daughter, and was never seen again. His case is the oldest active missing person case in US history.

The British explorer had a strong desire to locate a mysterious ancient city known as 'Z' that was said to exist somewhere in the Amazon. In 1925, Fawcett embarked on an expedition to the unexplored Amazon region along with his son and a friend. The three were never heard from again, and are believed to have been killed by natives.

The popularity of the American journalist, writer, and satirist grew as a result of his book 'The Devil's Dictionary.' At the age of 71, Bierce travelled to Chihuahua, Mexico, and mysteriously disappeared, sparking theories of him being shot by Mexican revolutionaries around 1913.

Miller was a well-known musician in the 1930s and 1940s, leading one of the most beloved big bands of all time. He was on his way to Europe to entertain American soldiers during World War II when his plane vanished over the English channel. It is believed that the plane crashed due to the turbulent weather conditions of a storm. Unfortunately, Miller was never found, and his disappearance remains a mystery.

This Australian aviator gained significant fame during his initial years in the air force and achieved several noteworthy flights. In 1935, while on route from England to Australia, his aircraft tragically crashed near Myanmar.  Although the wreckage of his plane was discovered, his body remained unrecovered.

He participated in the pursuit of John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of Abraham Lincoln, eventually leading to Booth's death. Corbett traveled the United States before disappearing without a trace in 1888.

Known by his stage name DY, this Canadian rapper was headed to Mexico in 2010 when he disappeared without a trace. It is speculated that his disappearance was somehow substance-related.

This New Zealand heart specialist identified a condition called Williams Syndrome. It is a disorder that impacts the development and proportion of different body parts.  He later disappeared, never to be seen again.

This explorer and navigator from England was given the assignment of discovering a path to Asia in the north. Nevertheless, most of his crew desired to return home after a challenging expedition, and revolted against him. The fate of Hudson remains a mystery even today. Some say the crew cast him adrift, while some believe they killed him.

Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish architect and diplomat residing in Budapest, emerged as a renowned figure for his remarkable efforts in safeguarding tens of thousands of Jews amidst the chaos of World War II. Unfortunately, in 1945, he was apprehended by the Soviets and tragically disappeared. The Soviets claimed that Wallenberg perished due to a heart attack, yet his family maintains their belief that he endured years of Soviet confinement.

In 1970, a three-year-old named Grimmer went missing in Australia after being kidnapped from a beach. This unresolved case has spanned over four decades. In 2017, a man was apprehended as a suspect in the child's abduction, but the charges against him were subsequently dropped in February 2019.

In 1953, an American fighter pilot was stationed at Michigan's Kinross Airbase. He received orders to investigate an unidentified aircraft in a restricted airspace. Both planes vanished, and Moncla's fate remains unknown. Ufologists recount the story to this day.

This American vocalist released two albums but did not attain the desired fame. In 1975, he travelled to Mexico and disappeared without a trace. His guitar, clothes, and money were all found in his car.

The American was the daughter of Aaron Burr, Vice President of the United States. After traveling to Europe, Theodosia headed back to the US aboard the Patriot in 1813. But the boat disappeared and Theodosia was never seen again. Some believe the ship was attacked by pirates.

The leader of the Gestapo, and a key planner of the Holocaust. According to the BBC online edition, he was last spotted in Hitler's bunker on the day the Nazi leader committed suicide. What happened to him afterwards is still a mystery, making him a significant figure of the Nazi  whose death was never confirmed.

In 1992, three individuals, Suzanne Streeter, Stacy McCall, and Sherrill Levitt, disappeared in Springfield, Missouri. No signs of struggle were found, and their personal belongings remained untouched. To this day, their location remains unknown.

In 1872, an American ship departed from New York and intended to sail to Genoa. However, it was later discovered near Portugal's Azores, with no individuals found aboard. The fate of the individuals remains a mystery to this day.

The American was a writer and adventurer who loved a challenge. In 1939, he embarked on a journey from Hong Kong to San Francisco aboard an ancient Chinese vessel. Tragically, he vanished during this voyage. In his final message, he mentioned encountering a severe storm.

In 1998 this American businessman was condemned to 17 years in prison for defrauding various American financial institutions. Ruffo didn't hand himself in to complete his sentence, and was never seen again. He is still wanted by the authorities to this day.

This 19th-century British inventor is credited with inventing the machine gun. When Cantelo disappeared, his family hired a private investigator who followed his trail to America. His sons believed he assumed a new identity.

The American served in the army and joined the American secret service (OSS) during World War II. Subsequently, he relocated to Thailand, where he decided to leave the OSS and venture into the silk industry. Tragically in 1967, he vanished while strolling outside his bungalow, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

According to History.com, John White, governor of the island colony of Roanoke, went to England for supplies around 1587. But when he returned, White and his men found no trace of the nearly 100 people who lived on the island, just the word 'CROATAN' written in wood.
