The Holy Grail is often associated with Jesus during the Last Supper. It's believed that this was the cup he used, making the vessel quite remarkable.

▲

Joseph of Arimathea, one of Jesus' followers, is said to have used the grail to collect his blood from the cross, further enhancing the grail's significance. Nevertheless, the Bible does not mention this artifact, leaving the question unresolved.

▲

Actually, the concept of the Holy Grail was recognized during the Middle Ages. The earliest mention of it can be traced back to the 12th-century work 'Percival, the Story of the Grail' written by Chrétien de Troyes.

▲

The poem mentions a golden grail adorned with jewels, yet it does not establish a connection to the Last Supper, nor does the writer refer to it as "Holy."

▲

The word "grail" in English is derived from the Old French word "graal," which can be traced back to the Latin word gradali.

▲

It is probable that "gradalis" is a variant of the term "cratalis," derived from the Greek word "krater."

▲

A krater was actually a bowl used for mixing wine, so not quite the same as a cup as many would imagine.

▲

Approximately a decade later, Robert de Boron, a French writer, delved into the tale of Percival and crafted a literary piece titled 'Joseph d'Arimathie.' Within this book, Joseph (the one who laid Jesus to rest) is described as utilizing the cup from the Last Supper to gather Jesus' blood.

▲

After the disappearance of Jesus' tomb, Joseph faced arrest. However, Christ appeared to Joseph, presenting the Holy Grail to him. This sacred artifact provided sustenance throughout his confinement. Joseph became the original guardian of the Holy Grail, followed later on by others.

▲

The tale of the Fisher King differs according to authors, yet he's generally depicted as a descendant of Joseph of Arimathea. He holds the role of the Grail's final guardian, plagued by a curse that can only be broken by a chivalrous knight who will rescue both him and his realm.

▲

Galahad, a Knight of the Round Table under King Arthur, is revealed to be the knight who discovers the Holy Grail and restores the Fisher King's health.

▲

Wolfram von Eschenbach's poem, 'Parzival', provides additional intriguing details to the story. It reveals that the Grail is, in fact, a stone from Lucifer's crown known as the "lapsit exillis", which is synonymous with the philosopher's stone. Thus, we find Harry Potter woven into the narrative.

▲

The tale of the Fisher King bears striking resemblance to an ancient Celtic legend. In this myth, the revered leader Bran the Blessed possessed a magical cauldron, renowned for reviving life and bestowing wisdom. Is this mere coincidence?

▲

English writer John Hardyng was the original thinker who proposed an intriguing idea. Could it be possible that the term "sangreal" (the Old French term for "Holy Grail") actually referred to "sang-real" meaning "royal blood"?

▲

This revelation has significant implications as it introduces a concealed lineage of Jesus Christ, alongside his supposed spouse, Mary Magdalene. It is believed that the bloodline of Jesus is synonymous with the Holy Grail.

▲

In 2003, Dan Brown's novel 'The Da Vinci Code' helped popularize the theory. The book became a best seller, produced a sequel, and was later adapted for the big screen.

▲

Contrary to popular belief, this conspiracy theory had actually been expounded far longer than that. Back in the early '80s, Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln wrote about it in their book 'The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail'.

▲

The Holy Grail has been portrayed in various art forms, including film. Prior to 2006's 'The Da Vinci Code,' Harrison Ford led the quest in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' (1989).

▲

Eschenbach's medieval-era 'Parzival' mentions a military group known as the Templeise, believed to be connected to the Knights Templar. In Italy, Rocco Zingaro di San Ferdinando, the grand master of the Templars, asserts possession of the Holy Grail.

▲

The Basilica of San Isidoro in Leon, Spain, also claims to possess the Holy Grail.

▲

The chalice, believed to have been brought from the Holy Land via Egypt, was used by Infanta Doña Urraca.

▲

The Chapel of the Holy Grail in Valencia, Spain, is considered as one of the potential sites of the Holy Grail.

▲

The Cathedral of San Lorenzo in Genoa, Italy, also lays claim to the mysterious relic, which it apparently salvaged during the crusades.

▲

The Nanteos Cup, displayed at the National Library of Wales, is thought to be constructed from a fragment of the True Cross upon which Jesus was crucified.

▲

Glastonbury, located in Somerset, England, is famously recognized for its annual festival. However, the Glastonbury Thorn tree holds a strong connection to Joseph of Arimathea and the introduction of Christianity to the nation, thus intertwined with the Holy Grail.

▲

The Château de Montségur, a Cathar castle situated in southern France, is considered a potential site for the Holy Grail, according to speculation.

▲

Additionally, it is worth considering Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland as a possible Holy Grail location. According to legend, the chapel's walls are believed to hold secrets related to the Templars.
