TRAVEL Aurora borealis

Parts of the northern US may get a glimpse of the northern lights on the night of May 6, as a geomagnetic storm is expected to disrupt Earth’s magnetic field, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The best views are likely in northern Canada and Alaska, but some visibility is possible as far south as just north of Iowa. Areas with a slight chance include northeastern Washington, northern Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas, Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, and northern Maine.

The aurora borealis is a stunning natural phenomenon that captivates anyone lucky enough to witness it. While science explains it as the result of sun particles colliding with the Earth's atmosphere, Icelanders believe the magical lights are angels dancing in the sky.
