MUSIC Concert disaster

Brazilian police say they stopped a planned bomb attack at Lady Gaga’s free concert in Rio de Janeiro on the night of May 3.

According to police, a group was planning to target "children, teenagers, and the LGBTQIA+ community." Two people were arrested in raids across different states. The suspects had been trying to recruit others online—including teens—and planned to use homemade bombs and Molotov cocktails. Police say they wanted the attack to go viral as part of an online "challenge."

The concert, held on Copacabana Beach, drew more than two million fans. It was the biggest show of Lady Gaga’s career, and the highest attended concert by a female artist. While this attack was thankfully prevented, it’s a reminder that concerts, though meant to be joyful celebrations of music, can sometimes become scenes of tragedy. From riots and fires to targeted violence, many shows throughout history have ended in chaos.
