Kevin Spacey
- After several years of being blacklisted, Kevin Spacey experienced a major win for his public image on July 26. Spacey was charged with sexually assaulting four different men in the UK over several years and his criminal trial began on June 30, 2023. Less than a month later, he was found not guilty on all nine counts. After weeks in court hearing evidence and listening to the four alleged victims testify along with many other witnesses, the jury spent just two days in deliberation before reaching their verdict. Spacey made a brief speech as he left the courthouse, saying, “I imagine that many of you can understand that there’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today. But I would like to say that I am enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts carefully before they reached the decision. And I am humbled by the outcome today." He went on to thank the staff of the courthouse and his own legal team.

Kevin Spacey
- This was Spacey's second major legal victory since allegations of sexual assault first reached the public in 2018. Broadway actor Anthony Rapp brought a civil suit against Spacey in 2020, accusing the former 'House of Cards' star of assaulting him when he was just 14 years old and Spacey was 24. After learning that Rapp had given an inaccurate description of the apartment where the alleged assault took place in 1984, the jury found that Spacey was not liable.

Huw Edwards
- The BBC was turned upside down by an exposé published in The Sun on July 7, 2023. It claimed that an unnamed presenter had been accused of soliciting sexual images from a 17-year-old. On July 12, the wife of Huw Edwards, one of the BBC's most prominent presenters, made a public statement confirming his identity. Edwards' wife, Vicky Flind, announced that he had been admitted to hospital for psychiatric care following the accusation and his subsequent suspension by the BBC. She went on to say that Edwards will respond to the allegations when he is well enough to do so. On the same day, London’s Metropolitan Police announced that there was “no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed.” Another allegation against Edwards arose after the initial story broke, which the police say they are aware of. The BBC will continue its own investigation into the matter.

Donald Trump
- Donald Trump was found liable by a jury for sexually abusing and defaming former Elle advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in her civil trial, and was ordered to pay US$5 million in damages for both acts. The unanimous verdict marks the first time Trump, who has been accused of sexual assault by numerous women, has been held legally responsible for sexual misconduct. Carroll had previously sued the former president under New York's Adult Survivors Act, which allows a one-year window to file sexual abuse claims that otherwise would be barred by the statute of limitations. After less than three hours of deliberation, the jury concluded that she was sexually abused—the second-highest offense they could choose—and though their verdict could not determine guilt or lead to criminal charges due to the nature of a civil trial, they did have the power to order that Trump pay damages of US$2 million for sexual abuse and US$3 million for defamation, People reports.

- Carroll's suit, which led to the May 2023 trial, alleged that around three decades ago Trump had pinned her against a dressing room wall of the Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue in New York City and sexually assaulted her, causing severe injury and lasting psychological harms, among other things. She sought "redress for her injuries and to demonstrate that even a man as powerful as Trump can be held accountable under the law." Trump denied the public allegations in 2019 and said in an interview: "No. 1: She's not my type" and, further, that he had "never met this person in my life." The two were actually photographed together. He also tweeted that Carroll was "totally lying" about the assault to boost sales for her memoir. The US Department of Justice's lawyers had previously argued Trump was legally immune as he was president when he made the remarks in 2019, but on July 11, 2023, they said they no longer had "sufficient basis" to conclude Trump had acted within the scope of his duties. The lawsuit will go to trial in January 2024.

Jonah Hill
- Alexa Nikolas, former child star of 'Zoey 101' fame, claimed on Twitter on July 8 that when she was 16 she was at a party at Justin Long's house where Hill, “slammed me to the door and shoved his tongue down my throat. I was so appalled I pushed him off of me and ran inside.” Hill's attorney called the allegations "a complete fabrication," but Nikolas' claims come hot on the heels of Hill's ex Sarah Brady accusing him of being an “emotionally abusive,” “misogynist narcissist.”

Colleen Ballinger
- YouTuber and comedian Colleen Ballinger was accused of inappropriate behavior with her teenage fans by fellow YouTuber Adam McIntyre, among others. McIntyre, 20, spoke out against Ballinger, 36, for the first time in 2020, accusing her of grooming him and other fans while they were teenagers. Several other fans came forward with similar allegations in June in an article for the Huffington Post. The Miranda Sings creator has admitted that she used to maintain close contact with many fans and made jokes she regrets, but denies the allegations of grooming. She responded to the claims via song in a YouTube video on June 28, which is likely to become infamous. Ballinger played the ukelele and sang in her own defense, with lyrics like "Your goal is to ruin the life of the person you despise while you dramatize your lies and monetize their demise." McIntyre was quick to respond. "Are you kidding me?" he said in a Twitch stream. "This is your response? Your response is making fun of us? I'm in awe."

Michael Jackson
- Fourteen years after his death, Michael Jackson will effectively be tried for the alleged molestation of Wade Robson when he was a child, TMZ reports. Robson, a choreographer, has accused Jackson of sexual misconduct at the Neverland Ranch when Robson was between the ages of 7 and 14, though an issue arose because Robson is suing Jackson's corporation, MJJ Productions Inc., whose lawyers argued that the company had no legal duty to protect anyone from Jackson because the star was not within their limits of control. Still, the California Court of Appeal made a tentative ruling, which usually becomes final, that the case will be sent back to trial.

- n 2005, when Jackson was on trial for the molestation of another boy, Robson had testified that he'd slept in Jackson's bed but nothing happened, though he changed his story in 2013 when he filed a lawsuit against the company, and explained that he had previously testified falsely on behalf of Jackson due to "complete manipulation and brainwashing," TMZ reports. Robson is joined by another man, James Safechuck, who filed a similar lawsuit against MJJ Productions which seems likely to be given the green light by the Court of Appeal

Tenoch Huerta
- On June 10, 2023, musician María Elena Ríos made public allegations of sexual abuse against actor Tenoch Huerta. Huerta found international fame in 2022 through the role of Namor in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.' Translated from Spanish, her Twitter post read, "It's very difficult to talk about the emotional abuse and the abuse of power of a sexual predator who is loved around the world for playing a character in a movie such as Tenoch Huerta." When asked why she hadn't reported him to the police or spoken out sooner, Ríos referred to Mexico as a "macho country" where justice is "unattainable," and her story would have been dismissed. Huerta responded a few days later, calling the accusations "false and completely unsubstantiated." He claimed that he and Ríos dated for several months the previous year, describing the relationship as loving as consensual. "After it ended, however, Elena began to misrepresent our interactions both privately and in front of groups of mutual friends," he alleged. Huerta had been working on a Netflix movie when the allegations were made, but on June 21, he announced that he was stepping down. "Given the impact of the recent false statements by María Elena Ríos and the damage they have caused, I have no choice but to withdraw from participating in the film 'Fiesta en la Madriguera.'" He concluded the statement by saying, "My focus now is simple: continue the process of restoring my reputation."

Andrew Tate
- Andrew Tate, self-proclaimed “misogynist” who became infamous for his extreme views online, was indicted on June 20, 2023, alongside his brother Tristan and two Romanian citizens on charges of human trafficking, sexual assault, and setting up a criminal gang, according to a statement from Romanian prosecutors, per CNN. They are under house arrest and awaiting a criminal investigation for the abuses committed against seven women. Per Romanian law, the case will be sent to the court’s preliminary chamber, where a judge has 60 days to inspect the case files to ensure legality.

Andrew Tate
- Tate was previously arrested in Romania on December 29 along with his brother and two others, and investigators then had said the four suspects "appear to have created an organized crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing, and exploiting women" by forcing them to create explicit content which was then to be posted to a website where viewers could pay to watch it. Prosecutors have said the Tate brothers recruited their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming to want a relationship or marriage. Tate and his brother have been under criminal investigation since April 2022 when their Romanian residence was raided by police after the US embassy received a tip that women were being held there against their will, and indeed found two women who claimed they were being held captive. Tate unsurprisingly became infamous for his viral online rants preaching male dominance, violence against women, female submission, and the pursuit of wealth, and was previously banned from every major social media platform until Elon Musk reinstated his Twitter account.

Conor McGregor
- Irish UFC champion Conor McGregor has been accused of violently assaulting a woman in a bathroom at the NBA Finals game in Miami on June 9, 2023. The alleged victim claims that McGregor, with the help of his security, separated her from her friend and forced her into a VIP men's bathroom at the Kaseya Center, where the game was taking place. She says that he then tried to force her to perform multiple sexual acts in an aggressive manner. The woman contacted authorities and her law firm immediately to report the incident. A letter, obtained by ESPN, was sent to McGregor by her legal team outlining the allegations. Miami Police confirmed that their special victims unit is investigating. McGregor's lawyer, Barbara Llanes, vehemently denied the allegations on his behalf, stating, "Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated" in a written statement. The controversial fighter has been accused of sexual assault on four other occasions outside of the US but has never been charged.

Bill Cosby
- After serving less than three years in prison for multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court made a shocking decision to toss out Bill Cosby's 2018 conviction and release him in 2022. Their ruling was based on the fact that testimony he gave in a different civil case was unfairly used against him. As Cosby was hit with many allegations of sexual assault from several women and only convicted for his actions against one, his release was a huge blow.

- In 2022, Cosby was found guilty of sexual assault again in a civil trial from yet another accuser. Judy Huth testified that Cosby invited her and a high school friend to a party at the Playboy mansion in 1975, when she was 16 years old, where he forced himself on her in a private room. Cosby's lawyers tried to accuse Huth of fabricating the story, but Huth said she decided to come forward after seeing dozens of other women come forward with similar allegations. Cosby didn't appear in court during the trial but his 2015 video deposition was used, in which he said he did not remember Huth. The jury ruled that Cosby must pay Ms. Huth US$500,000 in damages.

Bill Cosby
- As of June 2023, Nine women have brought a new lawsuit against the disgraced comedian. This new legal battle will take place in the state of Nevada. The women named in the lawsuit include model Janice Dickinson and artist Lili Bernard, both of whom have spoken out against Cosby in the past. Dickinson previously testified that Cosby invited her for dinner at his home in 1982, where he drugged and sexually assaulted her. Bernard's accusations against Cosby are almost identical, but the alleged incident took place in the 1990s. The other women all have similar stories to share, spanning several decades. They are just nine of over 60 women who claim to have been assaulted by Cosby over the years. The Nevada lawsuit was filed less than a month after the state eliminated the statute of limitations for civil cases such as this. Cosby has continuously denied all of the allegations of sexual misconduct.

Danny Masterson
- 'That '70s Show' alum Danny Masterson was found guilty of two out of three counts of forcible rape in his Los Angeles retrial. The 47-year-old actor was standing trial for the second time after three different women accused him of assaulting them between 2001-2003 during the #MeToo revelations. He was ordered to stand trial by a judge in 2021, but after disturbing details were unearthed in court, the jury was still unable to come to a unanimous decision on all three counts, and a mistrial was declared on November 30, 2022. A new trial was ordered and finally kicked off on April 24, 2023. This time, the prosecution brought evidence that Masterson had drugged the alleged victims.

Armie Hammer - Two years later, on May 31, 2023, the Los Angeles County D.A.’s office announced that they had decided not to prosecute Hammer. “As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt… Due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt," a statement read. Hammer took this news as proof of his innocence, despite the careful wording of the statement that suggested otherwise. Hammer took to Instagram with his own statement: “I am very grateful to the District Attorney for conducting a thorough investigation and coming to the conclusion that I have stood by this entire time, that no crime was committed. I look forward to beginning what will be a long difficult process of putting my life back together now that my name is cleared.”

Rudy Giuliani
- All eyes turned on Rudy Giuliani as a woman named Noelle Dunphy, who says she worked as an off-the-books employee for him during his stint as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, alleged that the former New York City mayor coerced her into sex and owes her nearly US$2 million in unpaid wages. Dunphy initially made her allegations public in January 2023, but gave much greater detail in a 70-page legal complaint filed May 15 in New York, reports PBS. Dunphy says she was Giuliani’s business development director and public relations consultant from 2019 to 2021 and says he made sexual demands "an absolute requirement of her employment." She claims to have numerous audio recordings of Giuliani, including some in which she says he can be heard making sexual comments, demanding sex and making sexist, racist, and anti-Semitic remarks, as well as screenshots of suggestive text messages. The lawsuit alleges that he often made her perform sexual acts on him while he was on the phone with high-profile friends and clients, and that he urged her to work in a bikini and to strip for him during video meetings.

- The lawsuit claims Giuliani hired Dunphy in January 2019 and promised to pay her US$1 million per year, but that he told her he had to defer payment until he settled his divorce from his third wife, Judith. Giuliani reached a divorce settlement in December 2019, but Dunphy said all she got from Giuliani were a few cash payments totaling US$12,000, meaning he still owes her US$1,988,000, she said. Giuliani “vehemently” denied the allegations through a spokesperson. In this lawsuit Dunphy is reportedly seeking at least US$10 million.

Allen is a high-profile singer who won best new male artist at the Country Music Awards in 2021, and hosted the awards ceremony with Dolly Parton in 2022. Following the shocking revelations, he was immediately removed from the line-up for June's CMA Fest in Nashville, and his contract with record label BBR Music Group was suspended.

- Manson has denied all allegations, but he was sued a fourth time by a woman called Ashley Morgan Smithline who accused him of sex trafficking and sexual abuse. Smithline states that Manson lured her to the US with the false promise of an acting job in 2010 and proceeded to abuse her for several years. And in January 2023, yet another alleged victim filed a lawsuit against him for sexual assault of a minor. It's the first suit to focus on sex crimes that allegedly took place at the beginning of Manson’s career, and it names his former labels Interscope and Nothing Records as defendants. Manson tried to sue Evan Rachel Wood for defamation, but a California judge threw out most of his case on May 9.

David Choe
- David Choe, a well-known artist and actor who played Isaac in the explosive Netflix series 'Beef,' has come under fire for comments he made on his podcast in 2014. In an episode called 'Erection Quest' Choe describes an incident in which he tried to engage a massage therapist in sexual activity while she was giving him a massage. He went on to describe multiple sexual acts in detail, and finished by reminiscing about the "thrill of possibly going to jail." His female co-host, adult film star Asa Akira, called him out saying, "Ew, you’re basically telling us that you’re a rapist now." Choe answered, "Yeah," before going on to discuss the woman's appearance with the other guests on the show. Akira cut in again, "Who cares what she looks like? Dave is telling us he’s a rapist.” Choe responded jokingly, "A successful rapist." Choe later released a statement claiming that the story was fictional and that he has never sexually assaulted anyone, and the podcast episode was removed. However, the controversy surrounding his story resurfaced when two writers posted clips from the infamous interview on social media on April 13, shortly after the release of 'Beef' which brought Choe into the spotlight. They were quickly contacted by Choe with accusations of copyright infringement and forced to remove the clips.

F. Murray Abraham
- It's been revealed that 'The White Lotus' star F. Murray Abraham was fired from his role in the comedy series 'Mythic Quest' last year following accusations of sexual misconduct on set. The actor left the show suddenly in April of 2022. We're now learning that this was the result of at least two complaints made by his female co-stars. Abraham was reportedly warned to stay away from the actresses, but when the second complaint reached the show's creator and star Rob McElhenney, Abraham was let go. While none of the key figures involved have spoken publicly about the incidents, the show's studio Lionsgate made a statement saying, “We take allegations of misconduct seriously and investigate them thoroughly. As a matter of corporate policy, we do not discuss our personnel actions.” Abraham released a statement after the news broke apologizing to his colleagues from 'Mythic Quest,' explaining that he made regrettable jokes and had learned from the experience.

Sebastian Bear-McClard
- Sebastian Bear-McClard, a well-known film producer who was married to Emily Ratajkowski until 2021, has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Bear-McClard was the producer of two of the Safdie brothers' films, 'Good Time' (2017) and 'Uncut Gems' (2019), but was promptly terminated in 2022 when his alleged behavior came to light. The accusations against him suggest he has groomed multiple teen girls by contacting them on social media and offering them opportunities in the film industry. One young woman says she was contacted by Bear-McClard and offered a part in 'Good Time' with Robert Pattinson, but instead found herself rushed into a sex scene with an actor recently released from prison. She was completely naked in a small room filled with male cast and crew members. She alleges that she and Bear-McClard started a sexual relationship afterward. She was 17 years old at the time. Other accusations against Bear-McClard include engaging in sexual relationships with young women while married to Ratajkowski, refusing to use condoms, failing to ask for consent, using offensive and racist language, and contacting underage girls on Instagram. Ratajkowski hasn't commented on the claims, but friends of the model say she isn't surprised by the stories of the accusers. The former couple are currently embroiled in a contentious legal battle over their divorce and custody of their young son. Bear-McClard is also involved in mediation regarding his termination by the Safdie brothers.

Tiger Woods
- Tiger Woods' former partner of five years, Erica Herman, made a legal request to nullify the strict NDA Woods had her sign when they started dating in 2017. Her lawyers cited the Speak Out Act as the reason that the NDA should be voided. The Speak Out Act came into effect at the end of 2022 and protects survivors of sexual assault and harassment, particularly in regard to speaking out about assaults that occurred after an NDA was signed. “Because of the aggressive use of the Woods NDA against her by the Defendant (Woods) and the trust under his control, the Plaintiff (Herman) is unsure whether she may disclose, among other things, facts giving rise to various legal claims she believes she has,” read the court documents. In May 2023, Herman formally accused Woods of sexual harassment, particularly as Woods allegedly pursued a sexual relationship with Herman while she worked for him and then forced her to sign an NDA or else she’d be fired.

Tim Allen
- In her new memoir called 'Love, Pamela,' Pamela Anderson claims that Tim Allen flashed her on the set of 'Home Improvement' in 1991, when she was 23 years old. “On the first day of filming, I walked out of my dressing room, and Tim was in the hallway in his robe. He opened his robe and flashed me quickly—completely naked underneath. He said it was only fair, because he had seen me naked. Now we’re even. I laughed uncomfortably,” reads an excerpt shared by Variety. Allen, who was 37 at the time of the alleged incident, was likely referring to Anderson’s Playboy modeling. But the actor has refuted the incident, telling Variety in a statement: “No, it never happened. I would never do such a thing." Anderson's explosive claim is one of many in her memoir which traces her rise from small-town Vancouver Island girl to international sex symbol.

Ron Jeremy
- The notorious adult film actor Ron Jeremy has been accused of sexual assault many times over the years, but was only charged for the first time in 2020. By 2021, he had been indicted on more than 34 charges involving 21 different women ranging in age from 15 to 51. The sex crimes he was charged with allegedly occurred between 1996 and 2019. His trial was scheduled to begin in May of 2022 but was delayed due to concerns about Jeremy's capacity after he appeared to be incoherent and unable to recognize his own lawyer. On January 17, 2023, a Los Angeles judge declared Jeremy mentally incompetent to stand trial and face the charges. He said that the accused was in a state of "incurable neurocognitive decline." Earlier in January, the Los Angeles Times reported that Jeremy was suffering from "severe dementia." In a statement, his lawyer expressed his regret that Jeremy was not in a fit state to go to trial and clear his name. For the many accusers, it was gravely disappointing to learn that they would not have the chance to see legal action taken against Jeremy.

Steven Tyler
- Aerosmith's Steven Tyler was formally accused of sexual assault, coercion of an abortion, and involuntary infamy over a series of years when he was in his mid-20s. Julia Misley filed the lawsuit in the final week of 2022 under the California Child Victims Act, which allows a "lookback" window for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file civil cases. “I want this action to expose an industry that protects celebrity offenders, to cleanse and hold accountable an industry that both exploited and allowed me to be exploited for years, along with so many other naïve and vulnerable kids and adults,” Misley said in a statement, as per CNN. In the lawsuit, Misley says she first met Tyler at a concert in 1973 when she was 16 and he 25. He allegedly took her to his hotel room after the show where he “performed various acts of criminal sexual conduct." The lawsuit says Tyler then purchased a plane ticket for Misley to join him at the band's next show where she was allegedly also abused. Then in 1974, the lawsuit claims Tyler convinced Misley’s mother to “sign over the guardianship of her daughter to him," with the promise that he would enrol her in school and support her, though he reportedly did not follow through on those promises and instead continued to assault Misley and give her drugs and alcohol as they traveled around. The suit also claims that Tyler impregnated Misley and coerced her to have an abortion by threatening to cease to support her and send her back to her family. And it doesn't end there, as Tyler reportedly “intentionally publicized the acts he perpetrated” on Misley, like in his 2011 memoir 'Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?' when he wrote about being so in love that he “almost took a teen bride,” whom the book does not identify, and how her parents "signed papers over for me to have custody, so I wouldn’t get arrested if I took her out of state." Misley says in the lawsuit that the publications retraumatized her and her family.

- A woman named Shannon "Shay" Ruth brought a lawsuit against Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 2001 when she was 17 years old. Kris Wu
- Chinese-Canadian music star and actor Kris Wu was sentenced to 13 years in prison in China for multiple sex charges. The former Exo member was accused of assault in 2021 by a Chinese influencer who says he forced himself on her while she was under the influence of alcohol at age 17. He was charged with sexually assaulting three women, as well as with "group licentiousness," which is defined as sex involving three or more participants over the age of 16 and carries a jail sentence of up to five years. The trial was held behind closed doors, allegedly to protect the victims' identities given that the accused was one of China's biggest stars. Paul Haggis
- The Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Paul Haggis, best known for his 2004 film 'Million Dollar Baby,' spent three weeks on trial in New York following accusations of sexual abuse. Haleigh Breest brought a civil suit against Haggis, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 2013 after they met at an event where she was working as a publicist. Haggis's lawyer accused Breest of making a cash grab off the back of the Me Too Movement, but Breest says she decided to speak out in 2017 after seeing Haggis publicly condemn Harvey Weinstein and wanted to hold him accountable for his own actions. After waiting five years for her day in court, Breest told the jury that Haggis had pressured her to go to his apartment where he forced her to perform multiple sex acts against her will. Haggis testified that the encounter did occur but that it was all consensual. The jury ultimately sided with Breest, finding Haggis liable on all counts. He was ordered to pay US$7.5 million in compensation.

Warren Beatty
- A woman named Kristina Charlotte Hirsch filed a lawsuit against Warren Beatty in early November. She is accusing the 85-year-old actor of coercing her into sex when she was still a minor in 1973. Hirsch alleges that they met on a movie set when she was 14 or 15 years old and that Beatty, who would have been 35 at the time, frequently commented on her looks, called her, and offered to take her out. Hirsch went on several car rides with Beatty and was invited back to the hotel where he was living during the shoot. She says that he offered to help her with her homework and brought up the topic of her losing her virginity several times. According to Hirsch, she was initially "thrilled" by the attention from the famous movie star and believed they were in a romantic relationship. She alleges that he eventually coerced her into sexual activity multiple times, and she is now suing him for the psychological, mental, and emotional distress caused by the sexual abuse.

He seemed to openly admit to the accusations in the 2020 lawsuit. “I hurt that woman,” LaBeouf said, as per Variety, without mentioning the singer's name. "And in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people, and many other people before that woman. I was a pleasure-seeking, selfish, self-centered, dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being.” The actor added, “When I think about what my life has become, and what it is now, like what my purpose is now… I need to be useful. And when I look at this #MeToo environment, there’s not a whole lot of dudes that are taking accountability.” He admitted that he "f—ked up bad," and "hurt a lot of people," and now has "a long list of people that I need to make amends to." Horatio Sanz
- A woman, identified only as Jane Doe, who is suing former 'Saturday Night Live' star Horatio Sanz for sexual assault asked the court on August 23 to add Jimmy Fallon, Lorne Michaels, and Tracy Morgan as defendants, claiming that they enabled Sanz’s misconduct. Doe alleges that she and her teenaged friends regularly attended 'SNL' after-parties from 2000-2002 where Sanz “groomed” her, kissed her, groped her, and attempted to digitally penetrate her when she was 17. The suit alleges that both Fallon and Sanz would drink with her, and that Fallon had once asked her about her age, to which she replied that she was a junior in high school. The complaint says Michaels had given her advice on pursuing a writing career at one of the parties, and that Morgan had rented out a space for an after-after-party in May 2002, where Sanz allegedly groped her against her will. According to Variety, the original complaint named Sanz and NBCUniversal as defendants and alleged that 18 NBCU employees either knew or should have known of Sanz’ grooming and sexual misconduct, including the three mentioned, as well as many other 'SNL' cast members. NBCUniversal reportedly intends to file a motion to dismiss the amended complaint just as they did in April, arguing that the network was not responsible for Sanz’ off-hours conduct.

The 21-year-old claimed that he and Martin had been engaged in a romantic relationship for seven months and that Martin began to follow and harass him when it ended, causing him to fear for his safety. A judge granted the young man a temporary restraining order while the allegations were investigated. Martin was unequivocal in his denial and said that the claims were "not only untrue" but "disgusting." On July 21, both parties appeared in court and his nephew dropped the allegations. The restraining order was lifted and Martin and his husband, Jwan Yosef, celebrated the win in an Instagram post caption "Truth prevails." However, Martin also spoke out about how horrific the experience was. “Thank God these claims were proven to be false, but I’m going to tell you the truth, it has been so painful and devastating for me, for my family for my friends,” he said. “I don’t wish this upon anybody.” He wished the best for his nephew, whom several family members claim has mental health issues.

Giuliani reached a divorce settlement in December 2019, but Dunphy said all she got from Giuliani were a few cash payments totaling US$12,000, meaning he still owes her US$1,988,000, she said.

She claims that Carter then took her to the tour bus where he sexually assaulted her and refused to let her leave. Court documents state that he took her virginity and gave her HPV. Kris Wu
- Chinese-Canadian music star and actor Kris Wu was sentenced to 13 years in prison in China for multiple sex charges. The former Exo member was accused of assault in 2021 by a Chinese influencer who says he forced himself on her while she was under the influence of alcohol at age 17. The young woman later claimed he had done the same to many other women, including two minors. Considering China's age of consent is 14, he stood accused of abusing girls of 13 or younger. According to the country's state-run media, he has been given a 13-year sentence and will be deported once he has served his time.

Haggis was in town preparing to teach master classes at the Allora Film Festival. Haggis was kept under house arrest for just over two weeks before an Italian judge ruled that there wasn't sufficient evidence to pursue an investigation. The director, who maintained his innocence throughout, was released without charge.

Win Butler
- Four people have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler. Though the allegations, reported by Pitchfork to include unsolicited sexual text messages and photos as well as forceful touching, have yet to make it to court, North American radio stations have already begun removing the Canadian band's discography from their lineups. In a statement, Butler denied the allegations—which were also said to be with much younger women—and claimed all encounters were consensual and that he never touched a woman against her will, CBC reports. The band's 2022 world tour kicked off on August 30 in Dublin, just a few days after the story broke. The Canadian singer-songwriter Feist served as the opening act for the first show but then announced her decision to drop out of the tour due to the allegations against Butler.

- Shia LaBeouf addressed the disturbing allegations brought against him on Jon Bernthal’s podcast 'Real Ones' in August 2022. And when I look at this #MeToo environment, there’s not a whole lot of dudes that are taking accountability.” He admitted that he "f—ked up bad," and "hurt a lot of people," and now has "a long list of people that I need to make amends to." In a surprising turn he called his accuser a "saint" who "saved my f—king life," because she "created the avenue for me to experience ego death."

Horatio Sanz

Ricky Martin
- At the beginning of July, beloved Puerto Rican pop star Ricky Martin was served with a restraining order from his own nephew.

- Robin Thicke's song 'Blurred Lines' had already come under fire for its objectification of women and promotion of assault culture when model Emily Ratajkowski alleged that the singer also groped her while filming the 2013 music video. In Ratajkowski's book, 'My Body,' she writes: "Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke." She said the director, Diane Martel, called out from the darkness beyond set. Martel corroborated Ratajkowski's account, according to the report. “I remember the moment that he grabbed her breasts,” the director said. “I screamed in my very aggressive Brooklyn voice, ‘What the f–k are you doing, that’s it!! The shoot is over!!'” Both women say Thicke had been drinking, but he "sheepishly apologized," Martel said, "As if he knew it was wrong without understanding how it might have felt for Emily.” The shoot continued on, however, as Ratajkowski admitted, "I pushed my chin forward and shrugged, avoiding eye contact, feeling the heat of humiliation pump through my body. I didn’t react—not really, not like I should have.” She explained that with that gesture Thicke reminded her, "I didn’t have any real power ... I was nothing more than the hired mannequin.”

Lizzo responds to sexual harassment lawsuit calling it "outrageous" and "disappointing"
© Getty Images
The era of #MeToo has brought waves of fresh sexual misconduct allegations against some prominent and powerful figures. It might seem like all of these accusations are new, but the fact is that victims are only just starting to feel more comfortable in sharing their experiences, and these acts of sexual misconduct and abuse have been going on for many, many years. The difference is that, now, people are paying attention.
The public is still learning how to deal with figures accused of sexual crimes and those who protect them, but by putting these stories in the spotlight, a discussion can be had about the power structures that enable these patterns, the faults our society has had in the past in dealing with them, and the steps we can take to do better.
Lizzo has been an icon of positivity, body acceptance, and realness since she rose to fame in 2019 with the hit 'Truth Hurts.' Now, however, she's being sued by three of her former backup dancers for sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. The shocking accusations, filed as a legal action on August 1, 2023, claim that Lizzo and two other leaders of the dance troupe harassed the women sexually and discriminated against them on the bases of race, religion, and weight.
The filing states that the dancers were "forced to endure sexually denigrating behavior" and were "pressured into participating in disturbing sex shows" in Amsterdam's Red Light District while on tour between 2021 and 2023. One of the dancers said she was pressured to touch the breasts of a performer despite her protests, for fear of losing her job. At the same time, the dance team's captain Shirley Quigley allegedly forced her Christian beliefs on the team and taunted those who engaged in premarital sex, while also sharing her own detailed sexual fantasies on a regular basis. The three dancers also claim that black performers were treated differently from the others, and were scolded for being "lazy, unprofessional, and having bad attitudes." One of the defendants claimed she was challenged about her weight gain by both Lizzo and choreographer Tanisha Scott. Two of the defendants were fired in 2023, while the third quit due to the allegedly toxic working conditions.
Two days later, on August 3, Lizzo responded to the claims in an Instagram post. "These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing. My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized," she began. "Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed. These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional." Lizzo went on to explain that she has never discriminated against an employee or terminated them because of their weight, and that there's nothing she takes more seriously than giving women the respect they deserve. In regards to the allegations of inappropriate behavior, Lizzo said, "I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not." She finished by thanking those who have reached out to support her during this difficult time.
