To say Whitney Houston is an icon would be an understatement. She had an astonishing vocal range, incredible technical skill, and an exceptional knack for squeezing all the drama out of a lyric, touching hearts and souls across the world. In addition to being a singer, she was an actress, producer, and model who paved the way for so many black female artists we love today. Sadly, her downfall was a tragic one, as everyone watched this legendary artist struggle through the years leading up to her untimely death, at just 48 years old.
Her story is obviously a valuable one to tell, and Houston's estate has just authorized a biopic, tentatively named 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody.' It's in the hands of the screenwriter of 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' Anthony McCarten, and will be directed by Stella Meghie, whose recent work includes the Issa Rae film 'The Photograph.' Of course, Houston's music alone can sell a film, but concerns are rising about how her story will be handled.
