Mark Wahlberg’s life was drastically different before he hit the big time. The youngest of nine children, he shared a three-room apartment with his family in the working-class Dorchester area of Boston. Mark left school at 14 and joined a gang.
He had various brushes—to put it lightly—with the law during this period. He got in trouble several times for drug dealing and other offences, picking up a cocaine addiction along the way. However, the darkest moments of Wahlberg’s life occurred when the star of ‘The Departed’ and ‘The Fighter’ was just 16. He attacked two Vietnamese men without provocation, battering one with a stick and punching the other while using numerous racial insults against the men during and after the beatings.
Wahlberg was arrested and charged with attempted murder; he pleaded guilty to assault. The teenager was then sentenced to two years in a correctional facility, though he served just 45 days. Wahlberg decided to turn his life around, embarking on a music career before finding greater success as an actor in Hollywood.
