The Trump administration announced on May 5 that it will offer US$1,000 and travel assistance to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily return to their home countries.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, those who use the CBP Home app to report their plans to leave will be deprioritized for detention and deportation. The department added that it has already funded a plane ticket for one migrant to return to Honduras from Chicago, with more departures scheduled for this week and next.

With so many of President Donald Trump’s policies focusing on immigration, many are wondering what impact these measures will have on the US economy and beyond.
