In 2016, the world was rocked by the news that Kim Kardashian West had been robbed at gun point in her hotel room in Paris. Five men who were disguised as French police officers broke into the reality stars room and stole (USD)$6.1 million worth of jewelry.
In a recent interview with Alec Baldwin, Kardashian has opened up about the trauma, and revealed how it actually was able to give her some perspective on how she was living her very public life.
"I'm totally a realist. So I know, you post on social media your locations, your jewelry, your bags, what you're doing, where you're going, your cars, your stuff. I would always talk about my stuff. There was a lot of me that measured who I was by how much I had. I thought, 'Oh, I'm worth so much,'" Kardashian said.
The star continued to explain how, after the robbery, "that changed in me. And, that needed to change in me, so I'm grateful for the experience." Kardashian added, "Even though it was horrific, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone, it really did deeply change me to where now I feel like I can get back to myself."
In addition to a new outlook, the robbery also impacted Kardashian's security measures. The star now has a constant team of security guards outside her home and who accompany her while traveling.
