Gelatin, the main ingredient in these squishy treats, may sound innocent enough, but if you follow it back through its production, it may make you want to go vegetarian.
The yellow, odor-free, and basically tasteless substance that is gelatin is created by over-boiling the skin, cartilage, and bones of animals. It comes primarily from what is left over from meat industries, which means pork skins, horns, and cattle bones. Is your stomach churning?
To some, using the whole animal is a good way to avoid unnecessary waste in the meat industry. But to others, the truth behind these colourful candies might make you opt for different candy at the movies.
