Many people discuss slavery as if it is a thing of the past. However the sad reality is that people are still enslaved all over the world.

Tony Hale, the comedy actor from 'Arrested Development' and 'Veep,' is on a mission to free people who are subjected to servitude. "Right now there are still more 40 million people living in slavery," Hale told NowThis. "That's five times the population of New York City or London."

Modern slavery is the use of violence or lies to force people to work for little to no pay. This includes sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and other employment violence often used against the impoverished.

Hale says he learned about the immensity of modern slavery and sex trafficking in 2007. He joined the International Justice Mission (IJM) to help free those who are enslaved internationally.

"To imagine any child put in these kinds of situations is unthinkable," Hale said. "Not only the pain and fear these kids are experiencing but the emotional trauma and confusion of why they are even being treated this way, this is where IJM steps it to say, enough."

As a fierce advocate for legislation that helps put an end to international injustices, Hale believes that it is the vocalization of these issues that will ensure change happens.
