Work is finishing up on the world’s first underwater tourist residence. The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island made the announcement, as reported by Travel and Leisure. The Muraka villa invites guests to literally “immerse themselves in an underwater world in the Indian Ocean” and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
Muraka is designed to blend into the natural surroundings. Guests are invited to become one with the ocean life that surrounds them as they sleep. Developer Ahmed Saleem released a statement obtained by Travel and Leisure. “The world’s first undersea residence encourages guests to explore the Maldives from an entirely new perspective below the surface of the sea”, he explained.
The villa comes after underwater restaurant Ithaa, also on Rangali Island. Developers of the hotel explain that the villa is named after the word for coral in Dhivehi, the native language of Maldivians.
