Donald Glover's hit TV show 'Atlanta' has made waves in the entertainment world. Currently in its second season, the FX series follows two cousins who are trying to break out of poverty and into the music industry. Praised for its refreshing depiction of the black experience in Atlanta, GA, Glover filled a writing room with people who bring their lived-experience to the show.

Stefani Robinson grew up in Marietta, a predominantly white area of Cobb County. While the safety of the town made for a sheltered childhood, the uncomfortable reality of being a person of color in this part of Georgia was unavoidable.

Glover explained to Nylon that Robinson “just had a real point of view which is hard to have when you’re as young as Stefani,” he said. “It’s hard to find people like that. I hired her on the spot.”

As the only female writer on the show, Robinson plays a vital role in bringing voice and proportion to the series, though she isn't just filling a quota. Glover explains how throughout the writing process, the team tries to remove unnecessarily gendered speech. Robinson adds dimension to the show as a whole, not just as one female character.

“I’ll probably always want to work with her,” Glover continues. “I think she’s in high demand in Hollywood because she has a perspective no one else has and she’s really good at a young age. She can probably get whatever job she wants right now, but what’s cool about her is she focuses on the quality of the project."

Currently in its second season, 'Atlanta' airs Thursdays on FX.
