Two years after the first season aired, Netflix has decided to remove a controversial scene from its teen drama ‘13 Reasons Why.’
From the show’s start, many viewers and health experts have expressed concerns about the way it inappropriately glamorizes dark subjects. Its intention was always to unearth difficult—and often taboo—issues, including sexual assault, bullying, and suicide, but several studies revealed that the series had actually increased suicidal thoughts in many viewers.
Netflix says the decision to censor the show was made "on the advice of medical experts," including the chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Producer Brian Yorkey explained on Twitter, "We believe this edit will help the show do the most good for the most people while mitigating any risk for especially vulnerable young viewers."
But this is not the first show that's been censored (and even banned) around the world. Check out this gallery to find out more.
