The US Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Colorado-based bakery that refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. Activists, organizations, and commentators around the world are shocked by the 7-2 ruling.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) took to Twitter to denounce both the Supreme Court and the media for its comments of the case. GLAAD wrote, "The correct term is 'religious exemptions' - not 'religious freedom.' Freedom of religion is an American value, discrimination is not. RT to send a message to #DropTheFWord. #SCOTUS"

The incident took place when Jack Phillips, the owner of Colorado’s Masterpiece Cakeshop, refused to serve David Mullins and Charlie Craig. Initially, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission (CCRC) ordered Phillips to cease and desist discrimination against homosexual couples but the Supreme Court overturned that ruling. This landmark lawsuit could influence a series of other cases that involve the Free Exercise clause and gay rights.
