Train station - The Grossinger family offered a million dollars to rename the local train station 'Grossingers' but the proposal was rejected by competing hoteliers.

More expansion - Jennie passed away in 1972, when there were plans to expand the hotel to 35 buildings over 1,200 acres, which would take 150,000 visitors per year.

Amenities - The hotel even had its own landing strip and post office.

1940s boom - Competition from nearby resorts meant expansion in the 1940s. They expanded the dining room and opened the Terrace Room and the Pink Elephant bar.

One hotel, various styles - The hotel grew over time, from a Victorian hotel to a Tudor expansion in the 1940s, ending with the addition of modern accommodations and entertainment facilities in the 1950s and 1960s.

Architect - The original building was designed by local architect Frank Cottle.

Decline - But by the end of the 1970s and 1980s, resorts like Grossinger's were no longer attracting such guests.

Woodstock - In August 1984, Grossinger's put on a Woodstock weekend to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the festival.

Attractions at the event - The event had a tie-dyeing workshop, musical performance from David-Clayton Thomas and midnight showing of the four-hour long 'Woodstock,' as well as an appearance by John Sebastian.
